Broken sharpmaker rod, what should I use to glue it?

Well, the other night I was touching up my pm2 on my sharpmaker, finished with the med grit ceramics, tossed them on the bed, they hit each other and one of them got about a third of it broken off. What type of adhesive would work best for putting it back together? I was thinking glue gun, superglue, jb weld? Have any of you tried it, what is the best way to go about this? (without ordering a replacement)

You may just have to get a replacement stone, gluing it would make it harder to clean, hell if it's slightly off it won't give you a consistent angle or worse damage the edge if you crossed it wrong. just sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

Those rods are fragile and breakages are not uncommon. Single replacement rods are available and don't cost that much.

The medium rods, right? Send 'em back, I say. The fact is that those rods are way too fragile. One of mine arrived with a huge chipped out section. I'm 100% sure that you did not abuse them and probably only tossed them very lightly and they just touched each other on the bed. Spyderco should replace in these circumstances. Just my dos pesos.

I dont think glueing it would work either if you didnt live in Canada i would send you one i dont use mine anymore. If you have someone i could ship to in the states let me know . Otherwise the replacement shouldnt be that expensive im sure . Rich

Try some of this stuff it's incredible http://www.zapglue.com/ and should work fine available at Hobby Stores, I recommend the green bottle or perhaps the yellow. check out zap images at bottom of page for descriptions.

Like many here I don't think there's any way of fixing this. Either use the larger half or see what spyderco can do about it, failing that, buy replacement or something else entirely.

Legion12: You mentioned not wanting to send your sharpmaker stone that you don't use across to Canada... I assume it's because of postage costs, TheAmateur may not mind paying the $5 or so it'd cost to get across.

I would just buy a replacement rod and put a handle on the broken end of the broken rod to be used solo. Would make a good field or kitchen sharpener.

I would be happy to ship it to him if he wants to take care of the frt. one of you guys send me a pm or a email we can work something out. Rich

Don't be tossing your stones man. Seriously, I would not trust glue. If it fails you could get cut bad.
