Fellow forum users, I'm sure quite a few of you have a knife you've carried in the past, which now has a broken tip, making a dandy excuse to get a new knife! Well, now that it served to get you a new one, how about letting me fix that tip for you, I can regrind so it looks factory, using the same water cooled belt grinder custom knives are made with. No jigs, hands only! I also repair chips, and do custom detail work for comfort(rounding handles, finger grooves etc.). Looking forward to hearing from you. Antonio

I just want to say I have worked with antonio(seattlight) for 1 to 2 years and we were absolutely crazy about becoming the best knife sharpeners we could be. call it a zen experience or just a calling. we busted our butts experimenting with all types of sharpening devices including expensive belt grinders.
I have to say antonio is one gifted knife/tool sharpener.

Thank you Chris.

Nope, never had a broken tip. I haven't dropped my knives tip down on concrete in a long time and don't expect to.

Well, I have. And it's a bummer. So, this is a good resource to keep in mind.

My guess is that this gentleman might also sharpen a swedge or two for you if you asked him nicely.

I sure have, of course I test a lot of butterfly knives by trying to see how difficult it is to get it to go through a coin. Usually, the cheaper blades just bend, but if they did not harden it right, it will get brittle and can be easy to break. Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

I hope none of the tips of my blades break, but if they did I know who to call.

actually had a gentleman inquire if I could sharpen the back edge of a balisong, am I missing something here? I enjoy working mine and I don't know the technique that would allow me to continue enjoying it with double edging.

Gollnick, whats a swedge? and thinking W? sorry if this is a little elemetry, but as you can see by my post count...

The proper term for an unsharpened suggestion of an edge on the spine of a blade is "swedge." A "false edge" is a sharpened edge on the spine of a blade that does not run the full length of the blade. A "double edge" obviously has a fully sharpened edge on the spine. A skilled balisong artist can manipulate a double-edged balisong. Even a less-skilled artist can manipulate one with a false edge with just a little extra care.

Often, balisongs and other knives are sold with a swedge instead of a false edge because of legal restrictions on "double-edged" blades. A swedge helps the knife penetrate when stabbed. It just "stream lines" it a bit so that there's less resistance. Converting a swedge to a false edge is then left to the owner as an exercise. While it can be done adequately with most any sharpening stone, rig, etc., it's often a lot of work since there's a lot of material to be removed and, for the unskilled sharpener, the results are often not as even and attractive as one might like. So, that task is often brought to a professional with adequate equipment. Someone like you.

Keep thinking W!
