Broken Tip on Military: Repair?

I made the mistake of lending my Military to a co-worker. He used it to try to remove a stuck bit(for cutting steel beams) from a drill. He broke the tip off and made the edge look like a chain saw. Can I get the blade reground by Spyderco? Will this weaken the blade in any way? Thanks.

P.S. NEVER LEND ANYONE YOUR KNIVES!!!

If spyderco can't help you just let me know... The Military is one of my favorites, and would be glad to tweek it for ya. I have made many a modification on the military base for years...

I'd just make the co-worker buy me a new Military. He could have the old one with the tip he broke.

When someone asks to borrow my knife, first question out of my mouth is, "What are you going to use it for?"

And that's for the people I trust. The rest get a plain, "No, I'm sorry. It's an expensive tool, and I don't loan it."

Show us pics of it.

Unless its a big chunk off the tip it can surely be repaired.

First of all I would bet that Amanda at Spyderco Repair could easily fix you up with a new blade for your Military. What blade steel did it have? Also I am sure these 2 brothers who have offered to fix it for you know what they're doing and would both do you a great job but I agree with the one brother that the bozo that ruined it should have to pay to fix or replace it  .

I have found through very hard trial and error that there are 2 tools you just really shouldn't loan to anyone except your very most trusted of friends that have used them before. The 2 tools are a premium pocket knife and a chain saw. I have had the worst luck loaning out either one of those tools. Even guys/gals who should know better will always run a chain saw in the dirt>> it never fails. Also most people think that a knife can be used for virtually every rough chore on the planet.

There are probably only about 10 to 12% of the people who know how to PROPERLY use a knife of any kind. Just keep those 2 tools under advisement for loaning out and you should fare well from this point on. But I would check with Amanda at Spyderco Repair. She is a great lady and they are a great company :)

Even my trusted friends don't touch my knives.I've had too many dinged/damaged due to trusting others judgement.tom.

Thanks for all the replies. There's about 1/4" missing from the tip. If I can get it reground without harming weakening the strength of the blade, that would be cool. The steel is S30V.

I would seriously convince your co-worker that he owes you a new Mili...If he won't pay up, drag him outside and give him alittle bit more convincing.:grumpy:.
