Broken tip

Thanks. What about the heat from grinding, it won’t affect the heat treat.
Heat management when grinding hardened steel is always critical for sure, but it's definitely doable without harming the heat treat. If your not comfortable/proficient with a grinder then sending it out or doing it manually with stones/files as Gary mentioned is another option.

I actually reshaped a broken tip of my D2 Spyderco Para using just a diamond stone. Yes it took longer than it would with grinders and sanders but it worked. I actually like the tip more now than the needle like original

Another way to look at this is that the broken tip is an excuse for you to order up a full custom knife!
Not cheap but it does give you an excuse if you need one to justify the cost.

I did that on a Griptilian. I started with a file and then dressed it with stones.

It actually went very well and I am very happy with the way it turned out.

You're most welcome, it would be less than a days time to finish and get things back in the mail for you and I'd tune up the edges if they were in need of sharpening as well.

Thanks sir, we've both been here many a long year now, but some days it doesn't seem that long ago ;)

I just thought I'd throw this out there. I use the set of diamond files pictured below for all sorts of work on hardened steel, including knife blades. They aren't high-end, but they have served me well and have held up to a lot of use. I got them at Amazon for around $10. I highly recommend them for people who might be inclined to do occasional work on hardened knife blades.

I like them so much that I switched from using large DMT diamond plates for reprofiling edges to using only the files.

The two pocket diamond hones not included.

My grandson broke the tip off the warncliffe blade on his 62 half congress I gave him 5 months ago. Any ideas? Any estimate to have GEC replace that blade?
Let’s take a moment also to appreciate the grandfather who gives his grandson a traditional folder, which grandson obviously uses. How old is the grandson btw? 😀
