Here's a new one designed by our own Bronco, aka Bill Hall. This is a one-of-a-kind camp knife in M2 tool steel.

The Bronco Camp Knife should handle almost anything the wilderness may throw at it. 15-1/2" OAL, with a very wide 9-1/2" blade and an entirely new grind (for me anyway). I call it the Saber Reflex. It begins at the top with a hollow grind to remove weight, but transitions into a saber grind near the edge to provide the excellent wood and other hard material cutting for which saber grinds excel. Weighing in at just 18 oz., the balance is right at the plunge line, making this a fine handling knife for one so large and powerful. The handle is a yellow line, black canvas Micarta with a checkered hammering surface on the butt.

Nice design, Bronco!

Camp knife is a term thrown around quite a bit and often applied to no more than a medium sized utility knife. Now THIS is a camp knife! A camp knife to me is something that can be used effectively for heavy chopping to food prep and everything in between.

I really hope you plan on using this beauty and I look forward to a review on how the M2 has held up under hard use (chopping, lots of chopping

).

Excuse me now as I am seeing visions of something similar in A2 and green canvas micarta

Jerry,

THAT looks a serious "user" for the backwoods! And no worry about grip slippage with that Hossom handle. Interesting grind from the description. Hopefully, Bronco will give a description of how it performs.

Very nice looking handle with the yellow line. Is there any chance you could get a picture looking down the point so we could get a better idea of the edge geometry? I know, that could be a pain...

Man! I can see using this for everything from building a camp to butchering game. What an original and well thoughout design. And the handle!- that's beyond ergonomic.

Jerry, you might consider making some bowies and machetes with pistol grip handles like this.

I can't wait to hear what Bronco has to say about this baby once he's had a chance to use it.

Bravo, Gentlemen

Bill and Jerry,
Now THAT'S a KNIFE

The unique grind sounds like a winner also. From what I've seen M2 manufacturing tooling stand up to, it should perform VERY well as a hard use knife!!

Well Done Guys,

Neil

Guys, I'm so excited seeing the finished product here I can hardly type. Words simply cannot express my gratitude to Jerry for the tremendous time, effort and energy he put into bringing this camp knife to life. To say that Jerry encountered a few challenges during its creation is a monumental understatement.

As many of us are already aware, Jerry demands that each of his blades cut efficiently, have excellent durability, and last but certainly not least, possess outstanding balance. Despite the obvious difficulties this unusually wide blade design presented, Jerry absolutely refused to compromise on these personal standards, and thus, from his fertile imagination, the Saber Reflex grind was born.
So while I'm very much humbled that Jerry felt the initial design held some promise, I'm here to tell you that what you see before you today is solely the product of Jerry's vision, innovation and immense skills as a knifemaker. I have no doubts that the performance of this blade will be excellent, but, as you might imagine, I can hardly wait to see for myself.

Wow!

I like that knife A LOT

Looking forward to a full working review from Bronco soon.

Thanks for the nice remarks, but the design was all Bronco's. I just grind steel, which if I ever do that much grinding in M2 again, I'll need to have my head examined. It is much more difficult than CPM-3V.

Here's a pic of the blade looking point on. This isn't exactly how it looks in cross-section since this is about 2" beyond where the top of the hollow grind crosses the spine, so the top here is thinner than it would be back a couple inches. The blade is about 3/16" thick at the spine.

Congrat's to you both. Great design, great execution. Will this be getting one of Sandy's incredible sheaths? Any chance of getting a picture of the butt? Sounds interesting.

A meat tenderizer? Cool! After all, what good is a camp knife without a built-in meat tenderizer?

Great design Bill, Jerry. This knife will surely handle your camp chores with ease.

Bill & Jerry--

You two make one helluva team. Heartfelt congratulations (or is that just a yearning sensation of envy in my gut?) on an impressive original design and gorgeous execution. It's beautiful.

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

Richard,
Just wanted to let you know that this one will definitely be making a quick detour to Sandy's house before embarking on its westward journey.

Richard----YES---YES !!!!! Bill informed me yesterday that I will be making two sheaths for this work of art. Jerry will be sending it to me in the immediate future and I am anxious to hold it in my hot little paws. Bill and I had a great talk on the desired features of the sheath. I am pleased beyond words at my being commissioned to fashion these sheaths. Thanks Jerry and Bill !! Those were kind words, Richard !

Great looking knife, thanks for sharing. Please put me on the list for a "Bronco Special" - if you ever worked up the nerve to do another one.

I wonder what one of these would look like in A2 with an old fashion deep blue finish.
