hi everyone,
I read the threads on BM forum regarding the new bronze washers. And if my memory serves me right, they will use bronze washers on all their models eventually instead of nylon ones.
Recently,I'm considering buying a 710 HS,and here comes the problem--should I wait for the newer "bronze washer 710 HS"? what's your opinion? Thank you for your help.

I think the phospher/bronze washers are an upgrade on any knife. I especially like them because I have a tendancy to tighten my pivots real tight and nylatron/teflon washers will sometimes become deformed from the pressure and tighter tolerances, especially when they get rotated upon opening and closing. I still have a few knives with the nylatron type washers, production and custom, and if I could find the right size bronze washer would switch over.

There is a trick to bronze washers. When the knife is finished properly and then the bronze washers are fitted properly, they make the action feel smooth as (whatever description you wish to apply). If the knife isn't quite right or the washers aren't fitted quite right, the action sucks and you will wear through the washers.

I've never had a problem with nylon/nylatron washers. If the knife is done right, you won't see a big difference either way.

My concern with Benchmades washers has always been the diameter of the washer. I have always felt they used too small diameter for their folders. Every BM folder I get, I put the largest diameter washer I can fit on the knife. This greatly reduces any lateral play, make the knife feel more solid. I also find the knife has an overall smoother action that is more consistent.

I get my washers from Kovals. Most knifemaking suppliers sell some type. I recently picked up a puch set that will [ermit me to make either coppper, bronze or nylon washers. i haven't played with it yet. But i gives me a great range in sizes.
