Many of you probably remember sending up prayers and smoke for Dave recently. Well, he's having another heart cath tomorrow, and he sure could use some more. I should know more tomorrow evening, and I will update as soon as I do. Thank you all in advance.

Smoke and Prayer for successful treatment and safe smooth recovery for Dan.
Be Well.

Smoke up first thing later this morning. The worst thing about having a heart cath is having that damned 120 pound sandbag layin on yer groin to help get the bleeding to stop!!!!! :(

Smoke and prayers from Reno

Found out that this most recent procedure was to repair one of the stents Dave received during his seven-bypass surgery last winter. This is the third attempt for this particular artery. There cannot be a fourth. The Docs did not seem optimistic that this stent would take either, and if (when?) it fails, another, more involved and expensive technique will have to be tried.

Kathy said both Dave and Debbie were trying to be upbeat and optimistic about the results, but we all know it has to be very discouraging for them. :(

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes. Please keep them up if you can. These are two good folks, who bless a lot of lives everyday.

this morning and was admitted for another heart cath this afternoon. Kathy and her Mom went up to wait with Dave's wife (and Kathy's sister) Debbie right after school.

I can't go because I have to take our eldest cat Molly to the vet to try to figure out just how much kidney function she still has left. The numbers in the panel run by the emergency clinic yesterday were not good.

Not a good Monday. :( We would all appreciate whatever intercessions you'd care to offer.

Thanks guys.

Smoke and Prayer for positive outcomes and good health for both Dave and Molly.

Kathy will be able to give a better update about Dave, but this is what I know so far:
Dave had three new stents added- making a total of twelve. It is apparently too soon to tell if the previous three recently-installed stents are going to work or not. I haven't seen the X-rays, but this man's heart is probably starting to look like a hedgehog.

Molly's situation is a little more definitive, and just as depressing. She basically has no kidneys left. We have been giving her subcutaneous fluids three times a week to keep her hydrated and flushed out. She is also on a prescription diet and we treat her food with a chitin supplement to help neutralize/absorb/whatever phosphorous. These measures have kept her going for nearly a year now, but are having less and less effect. We will be increasing her subQ fluids to a daily treatment, and adding an acid reducer to her food to help her enjoy it and keep it down. The Vet said it would be nice if Molly could make it through the Holidays with us, but to not be surprized if she can't. We will take our cues from Molly. Eating and being brushed by Kathy are her only joys in life now, and when she no longer has an interest in those, we'll know it's time. :(

Here is our cranky/sweet little senior citizen:

And here is Dave:

Thank you all for your compassion and consideration.

Thanks so much everyone for your support, thoughts, prayers and smoke.

Dave is quite the trooper. He gets a little sad and down sometimes, but tries to stay hopeful. Same with Debbie. It's so hard being so close when all we can do is stand by and pray, offering to do things that don't really matter.

Dave seems to thrive on the company of others and he and Debbie both enjoy a nice meal out. So last weekend Bryan, my mom and I went to his favorite Italian place and Debbie and Dave had a chance to laugh and let go a bit.

This week there is Thanksgiving for them to look forward to. Bryan and I won't be here (we're going to his folks in Cincy) but there will be turkey and all the fixins at Mom's house. Hopefully, Dave will not decide to bring along his special "smashed sweet potatoes and banana casserole."

Basically, everything is in a holding pattern right now. The one area that has been repaired three times has usually shown signs of trouble after 3-4 months. Hopefully, by then, there will be a plan to move him on to a larger hospital, such as the Cleveland Clinic, where they will do some type of therapy that involves "ballooning" the artery and giving it a dose of radiation. That is, if the stents don't hold.

Seriously, he's such a great guy with a strong faith, and my sister is simply a beautiful person. It means a lot to them that you all have them in mind. (Yep, they know about the guys in the Cantina!) ;)

About Molly, it's hard to know what to do... she is not doing well with taking her Pepcid AC in powder form, sprinkled in her food (otherwise, she is eating well). She does not need the trauma of forcing it down her throat at this point. If she doesn't take it, she will start vomiting again and if she does that, it will be time to say good-bye. It's a hard decision to make. For now, we'll just keep giving her her sub-Qs, feeding her her "tainted" dry food and brushing her and loving her.

Sometimes, there's only so much you can do....

Thanks for the update, Kat!
Give Dave and Deb our warmest regards and best holiday wishes. We are praying everyday for a positive outcome.
As for Molly, possibly you could sneak her pepcid into a special treat, i know it's tricky but it usually works.
