Made a couple of Bull Sharks which went on a journey together as brothers. Basic model with black/green micarta and Graphite black Cerakote finish. Steel is O1, selectively hardened.
These two knives are the first with my new modular kydex sheaths.
I've been developing these for a while and had the following specs in mind:
1 - The blade has float free in the sheath (enough room to break the knife free when frozen and it prevents scratches)
2 - Sheath should be open at the bottom (for simple cleaning and an escape route for moisture)
3 - Sheath can be taken apart (when something gets stuck in the sheath)
4 - Sheath should accept all bladetech products (teklok, quick release, molle loks, leg extensions etc.)
5 - Sheath must be simple to produce and easily adjustable to different models.
This is the first setup, it will undoubtedly change in the future, but I'm satisfied with the first results.
The two parts....Kydex is formed over a mold with the bladetech attachement points directly pressed in the kydex. On the bottem part the sheath tapers down so the tip of the blade will make sure that the knife won't rattle. This way the blade is only gripped at the handle and tip, the rest of the blade floats freely in the kydex.
Standaard setup, sheath and BladeTech leg extension with teklok.
One of the other options, quick release setup. This way the knife is easily moved between the belt and a bagpack for example.
