Been a while since I bought a knife, other than in trade. I was perusing the exchange and came upon a blue bionic. In a way, it is the antithesis of what I look for in a knife. So I bought it for the hell of it, trying to expand my horizons. It came in the mail today. Why do I say it is the antithesis of what I like in a knife? Well I generally don't like metal handles or wharncliffe style blades. Not a big fan of flippers either. However, something called to me.

First off, it has one HELL of a detent. I don't recommend using your fingertip to flip this, at least not at first. And that's me with my callused up diabetic fingers. Having xl hands, its easy to use the side of my finger to flip, so no points really taken off there.

Once open, the ergos are fantastic. For an aluminum handle, it is not slippery like my lionsteel sr-1a was, and I'm glad.

F&F are good, jimping is a bit sharp, may file it down a little.

I like this knife a lot, great edc for work. This will rotate in with my Caly 3 CF/ZDP and mini Tighe-Rod. Should be great for opening boxes and mail. Plus the blade shape and blue handle make it fairly sheeple friendly.

Nitpicks: The handle is only slightly longer than the blade when closed, and may be prone to catching on things. Only one screw for the clip. This concerns me in that in time it could develop some wiggle. Flipper is a bit sharp, may need to file it down slightly.

Overall: 7.5/10. Definitely a keeper. Can't go wrong with ~3 inches of D2 for mild to medium use. Definitely not a hard use knife though. Then again, I have a Cold Steel Recon 1 and Spyderco Gayle Bradley if I need that.

Thanks for the review, I just ordered the last red bionic from a reputable dealer. It was shipped today, looking forward to playing around with it.

So far I've enjoyed using it. The flipping action has broken in nicely. I took it on vacation with this last week and it got to see a lot of use. Good luck with yours.

Expected delivery Saturday. I'm the same as you, really not in to metal handles but I figured this one was worth a try.

We shall see:D

I got a Bionic too, and had some problems with it. The detent was obliterating my finger trying to flip it. The flipper was very sharp and pointy. The edge on it was bad. The jimping was sharp (previous owner fixed that). The jimping on the liner was also sharp. For about two hours of extra work, though, I got a sweet knife. I saw a post that said Mr. Brous is looking at doing a second gen Bionic to address the sharp everything, but until then if you send him the knife he will grind all the sharp edges down if you don't want to.
