I just got finished wrapping the handle and took a couple of pict before I fine tune the wrap and give it a good soaking.

The steel is 3/16"S35VN 1.25" wide and 13" OAL with the blade coming in at 8".

The guard is brass with a hammer finish on the face and back.

The handle is black sting ray with brown ito cord.

It has a twin brother in progress but in A2 and stainless guard ;)

I will toss up some better picts once it is all finished.

Thanks for looking guys....

Thanks Rolf,

Well I have been told a Tanto, needs to be have at least a 6" blade to be considered a "Tanto"....so with an 8" blade I guess it is a "Tanto" and you can hunt whatever you like with it :)

Currently it just got treated with marine epoxy and is drying right now

Adam- I read that a tanto had a 9" to 13"blade. But it dunt matter... it's a knife.
Keep up the nice work. I'd like to see you tackle a shobu style.

Looks nice and clean. Will you make a sheath for it?

Thanks

This one does not get a sheath. The customer is going to have something made.

I do make a bamboo saya for it or a kydex sheath if wanted.

Adam makes great blades... I have this model.. and a few others..

Hope this doesn't bugger things up:

Knife I commissioned from Gary 12-15yrs ago, a "shobu" styled knife, not quite traditional or exact.. Looking straight on it would be an outline like a diamond shape if that makes sense...

First picture shows the shape better as the reflection on the blade stops where the angle changes the most... cocobolo, his forged blade in I can't recall what steel, and water quench that actually made this short a blade curve up a bit adding a nice look. 4.5in tip to scales. Visible hamon.

^^^ Gary's blades are great.

He frequently blurred the line between shobu and moroha zukuri. I've seen many and owned a few that had elements of both. Yours is a nice one!

Yes, I see what you are saying when I refer to that page you linked us.. This is more of the MOROHA-ZUKURI, it was based on his "shobu" he frequently made.. Looking at it again, it basically is the MOROHA-ZUKURI.

==========
But more about the OP :)

I'll be getting another one of Adam's blades soon again :)

He is one of the best Japanese inspired modern interpretation makers on this site and in general. Super clean.

Keep an eye on what comes next.. it gets better each time!

Very nice of you, sloth.
Adam- Bang out some smaller kata-kira-ba's too.

Good stuff, Adam.

I miss brass. I think we should bring it back into fashion. This piece is a great start!!

Thanks Matthew....much appreciated.

When the client wanted brass it was not my first choice but went with it.

I was really pleased how it came out. The hammer satin finish really came out nice and I agree that brass could make a come back.
