Anyone know when Schrade started making todays version of the 8-OT? With brown sawcut delrin, and carbon blades, no swedges or anything? Had a friend ask, and I don't know...
(LT knows, for sure ;) )

8OT 1st year was 1959. 1st year in the catalog 1960. Cost 5.95. Named Senior in 1974. 1966 catalog description "Genuine Sawcut Delrin"
Some of the newest 8OT's can be found in stainless but most of the OT line has always been carbon and the Uncle Henry line stainless.

Information found in "Catalog History ofSchrade Knives (Uncle Henry & Old Timer)"

Bet you think I did this from memory!

Thanks, Larry!

If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known any better ;)

Sounds like a handy book, is it available anywhere?

Just to add to what Larry said, the 8OT was the first of the Old Timer line, introduced in the late 50's with sawcut genuine bone handles. By 1963, all Schrades had been changed over to synthetic bone handles, the jigged was called "staglon" back then, now that term is used for the imitation stag as on the Uncle Henry line.

My 1963 Schrade catalog lists the 8OT, the 34OT, 18OT, and the 25OT, it calls the handles "Meerschaum unbreakable plastic". It also show the 58OT which was part of the Ulster line.

Larry, does that book only list Old Timers and Uncle Henrys, or does it cover other Schrades as well?

AW heck fellers looks like you don't need me. Jeeze you go away for a day and the next thing you know you are obsolete. I know I know I have been obsolete for a long time. Good answer I couldn't have done better however I could have done as good without the book. Here is a pic of the smoothbone version. LT

Lt,
Without you around we have to revert to whatever means we have to help..
Your answers sure have a lot more color in them. Besides I can't remember anything anymore.
Where the heck did you go anyways?

He lives in Providence RI. ( see other posting and my new, "old display cases" ) So we met at Foxwoods casino. The book is a good reference and frankly answered the question better than I could off the top of my head. Which is rather flat. LT
