I have a Browning Black Lightning liner lock that my father gave me. I love the knife but the lock failed and bit me through a leather glove. My father has an identical knife that I checked out and after a single whack on my shoe, his lock failed also. I'll still carry the knife as I can keep it shaving sharp, but I'll be much more careful with it in the future. This is definately a light-duty knife now that I know the lock with fail with little stress. Has anyone had any experience with Browning customer service in regards to issues like this?

Hey Guys..

Morrow..

Welcome to the mighty BF.com

To be honest with you...
It doesn't surprise me in the least...

Treat it as a slip joint from now on,,and you should be OK...

I've Never had a folder close on me, so I can't say I know where you are coming from,, but I can certainly understand your feelings..

Hope you are Ok....

Thanks for the warm welcome.

It is a shame about the knife. The knife appears and feels sturdy overall......but a weak lock just ruins how I feel about the knife. It's the only 420 HC blade I own and I like it...but still....the lock is poor. It is now officially off my EDC rotation list. :)

Welcome to BF!

I mean no offense by this, but a lock failure does not surprise me either.

No offense taken. I do have some liner locks that I do trust. My Kershaw Leeks lock up pretty well. I don't however abuse them or pick them for a job they are not suited for. When in doubt, I'm always grabbing one of my fixed blades. My problem with the Browning is how easily this lock fails. I have a Browning Ice Storm in VG-10 (liner lock also) that has never failed....and I've tried just to see if I can trust it. I think it's just this Black Lightning line.
