I am looking at the Browning Crowell and Barker Competition Knife. It looks real pretty and I am thinking that this would make a great camp knife.

Does anyone have one and if so, any comments?

Thanks!

Wow! That's a lot of knife for the price. I was thinking of getting the Cold Steel Trailmaster, but this looks like a better deal.

I was talking to Jimmy Crowell just last night and I asked him about the Crowell/Barker competition knife. Jimmy said that it is one hell of a knife for the money.

I'm curious what specific steel it is made out of. "High carbon steel" could be just about anything. Looks like a nice knife, though.

Ya, I just checked it out. For the money I don't think you could go wrong. But I would also like to know what type (specifically) of steel it is.

Its specs say it weighs .1 oz. less than the Trailmaster.

If anyone has any intel on the "high carbon" issue, please share.

Of the six vendors I found with Google search, only two had the correct MSRP. Sooooooooooo, no, I don't think it's a mistake.

I received my A.G. Russell catalog today and that does look like a lot of knife for the money. But, I too would like to know what steel I would be purchasing if I bought one. They describe the specific steels in 99% of their catalog knives listed, but I am not sure why just 'high carbon steel' is used in this listing??

That is as much as Browning says at its site - "high carbon."

I have posted at AG's site, asking about steel, thickness, and balance point. I will relay his response.

I will try to call Jimmy Crowell tomorrow and get all the specs on the Crowell/Barker cutter. Jimmy told me what steel it was made from but I forgot. I will get all the info and post it tomorrow.

I just got off the phone with Jimmy, got all the info on the Browning cutter.

The knife sells for $149.95 through A.G.Russell.
Blade is 9 15/16 long
The width is 1 13/16
Black micarta handle
Handle is 4 15/16 long
Blade steel is 1084 and max. thickness is .23, convex edge.
Comes with paracord lanyard, brown leather sheath with frog button.

Jimmy has a few for sale at $150.00 + shipping. On these knives Jimmy fine tunes the edge buy hand.

If you would like to contact Jimmy be sure to put Browning crowell/Barker knife in the subject line and email him at, crowellknives@yahoo.com.or call him at 870-746-4215.

Thank you, Sir!

Sounds like it really was made to meet the ideas of these two expert -- REAL GOOD.

By the way, AG has knocked $10.00 off the MSRP, so its $139.9x.
