Today i went to my local outdoor supplies store and they just got a knew shipment of Browning Knives. I own a browning gun and which i am really impressed with and i was wondering if anyone has tried out their knives, if so are they worth picking up?

From what I have seen you have to watch out with the Brownings. I was sharpening a Browning knife for a buddy and I thought the style looked familiar. It sharpened up quick and seemed very soft. I then remembered where I had seen it before. The next time I went in to Walmart there it was in the sporting goods department marked with the Walmart inhouse name.

I've never seen a Browning Knife that looked like any of Walmart's Orzark Trail knives.

Browning has their knives made by other companies. So far all that I have tried were good knives made by Japanese companies. This is subject to change. I would be confident with a Browning knife if it said made in Japan. The ones that I have had are made with an AUS-8 alloy steel. This is takes a great edge and wears better than most nameless steels in cheap knives. I like the Browning knives that I own.

I have a Browning damascus folder. It turned out that the same knife is sold as a Boker Magnum.

I have two Browning Ice Storms made by Mcusta in VG10 I believe. Great little knives for the $25 IMO.

Same here. Well, I had two until I gave one away. I also have a Browning fixed blade that was made by TOPS Knives. It's also very nice, but I've seen some of Browning's knives that weren't so nice.

As mentioned above, Browning does not manufacture knives.

Their knives are made for them with the Browning logo placed on them.

And the quality is all over the place.

There are inexpensive, imported, relatively low quality knives.
There are moderately priced, good quality knives imported from Taiwan, Japan, Italy and elsewhere.
There are high quality knives sourced from the same countries.
Also high quality knives made in the USA.

For example, a couple of years ago, TOPS - an American company which makes quality knives - made a line of knives for Browning.
The knives were essentially identical to the original TOPS versions except with the Browning logo on them rather than TOPS.

Another example - the Browning Crowell Barker fixed blade has received great reviews.
It's imported from Taiwan.

I don't mean to jack the OP's thread, but does anyone know anything
about this one? It was given to me by my dad close to 30 years ago.
It just has " Browning USA " on the blade.

I think that the Bernard Levine subforum would be the best place to post this question (and picture).
