Who makes Brownings traditional pocketknives?
Usually I don't think twice about knives marketed by gun makers, but what caught my eye is that they're using AUS-8A steel. What do you all know about this steel? Take a look here.

Browning knives are quite good. I have two: a fixed-blade and a folder, both of high quality materials, design, and construction. And, I have my eye on some others. I don't have the models you're interested in, though. Browning knives are made in Japan. I don't know the manufacturer's name, but it must be some high-quality contract manufacturer. Aus8 is pretty good steel, although some people will complain about it. Look it up with the search feature.

I have a Browning Featherlite mini trapper, medium lockback, and fixed blade drop-point hunter. The steel takes a good edge, gets really sharp. I have looked at the models you linked to, but it's been a while. I liked them, but the place that had them at the time priced them over my budget. I can't remember if they're as good as an Old Timer or Camillus, but they weren't too bad.

I was interested in buying a more "tactical" folder by Browning. I thought it should be a good knife because they do everything else well. Anyways, I did a search on Browning in BF and found almost nothing. I'm suprised that nobody ever talks about them in BF. I would be interested in hearing opinions about all of Browning knives in general.

pst pjc.......Browning sufferes the same fate a Kershaw knives. They don't make
knives that appeal to the folk's who like the one hand wonder knives so common
today. They make good knives for sure. Neither Browning or Kershaw brag about
it tho. If you want a good everyday knife either one will do fine. If you want a weapon,
they don't market to that market.

I have a Browning trapper..'cept the blades are 440C vs the AUS-8A they seem to be using now. Anyway, great little pocket knife...holds an edge better than any of my ATS-34's...your mileage may vary.
