BRS Hybrid Replicant too heavy?

What are your guys thoughts on the BRS Hybrid Replicant that is coming out? Weight on BladeHQ states that is will be around 5.9 ounces. Do you guys think that is too heavy to be a compliment flipper?

Don't get me wrong, this knife looks beautiful, but coming from a company that makes balisongs specifically for slipping, it seems unfitting for them to release a knife so heavy. I have a read a lot of complaints that the Benchmade 6X series has been too heavy due to the stainless steel handles, I can't understand why they would make a knife with around that same weight. Any thoughts?

Inertia? No idea though. What is an average weight for a high end bali?

My preference is mid 4 areas. Though, my Benchmade 51 is 3.30 and I like the light weight. It could be preferences, but once it gets to the high 5's I have heard a lot of complaints that they bruise you from ricochets and are harder to do some tricks.

I haven't held a 6X, but I had a few SS 4X's some years back. They were not my favorite. I know some like heavier handles (including brass), but I'm not one of them. One of my few remaining balisongs is a 51, and its light weight makes it a fantastic carry knife (and a rather big one too), but not a great flipper.

As for the BRS, the titanium handles will drastically reduce weight compared to SS, but it's still going to be noticeably heavier when flipping. Keep in mind though that it's also longer than the 4X series, and that makes a big difference in the balance. The 43-401, for example, has latchless stainless handles and flips better (for me) than the full handled SS ones.

I was never a trick guy though.

The brs barebones v1 is 5.7 oz and it flips just fine. I wouldn't worry too much about the hybrid rep being too heavy. Honestly I've only heard positive thoughts about it. But I guess we will find out when it finally gets released.

I guess it comes down to preference, I am excited for it's release though. Anyone know when the release date is? Has it been announced?

The Rep has some pretty long handles.
5.75in closed and 4.9 oz
87 is
5.5in closed and 5.37 oz
6x is
5.27in closed and 6.39 oz

following the length x weight path of the 87. Would Put it in a great spot to flip for the people that like a little more momentum in their bali.
At the end of the day only one ounce is being added to it.+ The ti scales will make the rep run a little thinner.

But then again Specs don't mean anything until we can get our hands on one.

Agreed, it looks like a nice knife and I am very excited for it.

I guess my preference could be a little biased, the heaviest bali I carried around was about 7-8 ounces, not made for flipping. The second heavies was 4.5. I am probably going to buy it anyways, and fingers crossed I like the weight. I am relatively new to flipping and I am still dipping my toes in the water, the lighter ones seem easier to learn on though.
