I have always carried a folder, but never considered it to be more than a utility tool (or a weapon, where applicable), nothing really worth discussing as anything more than that. However, over the last year, I began to acquire an affinity toward certain custom folders that seemed to have my name written all over them.

I tend to acquire about 40 such knives each year (other than Warenskis) primarily just to handle, judge and appreciate them, passing them on at the original purchase price to a few individuals I know (you forumites know who you are) who have similar tastes, and the desire to own what I'm "unacquiring". I lose nothing and gain everything. It's a great replacement mechanism for being unable to attend the shows I otherwise would have attended, if not for health.

In this process, I tend to instantly know which pieces I'll not sell. They tend to be in the minority, for whatever reason. Here is one that I will keep, for all the reasons you eyes see (I mean, who could pass up that GORGEOUS blue fossil walrus and outstanding Damascus pattern by Bing!?) - and for the build quality, as well. Thanks, Bing! It's a perfect piece.

Mosaic Damascus (by Bing),1084/15N20, radialed W's pattern
Zirconium bolsters & backspacer
Titanium liners, gold anodized
Ancient blue fossil walrus
Closed Length: 4 3/8"
Blade Length: 3 1/4"

An image or two of this piece appeared in the Blade Show thread, but now that Bing doesn't own it anymore, it gets new pics (taken in pure, natural outdoor overcast lighting, no editing whatsoever), below:

Truly outstanding fit and finish considering the simple tools he works with. I have lots of respect for him and his knives. Still patiently waiting for my turn to come in his wait list

A thing of pure beauty, Bob. Thank you for the additional photos. The zirconium bolsters make for a nice transition from blade to scales - kind of absorbing the blade while providing a nice contrast to the scales. I see that the liners are goldish/bronze colored - titanium? Stainless?

Now, are you sitting there with your feet up becoming a chronic flipper?:D. Mike

Mike, the liners are titanium, thread edited above to include, thanks for pointing out.

That is beautiful, truly special

Congrats on that addition my friend.....everyone should own one of Bing's fancy folders and you have a fine one.

That is a superb piece, the Damascus is fantastic. :)

Wow, beautiful folder, very well done! A pleasure to see!

Bob, Thanks so much. The new pics are so much better than the ones I posted in the blade show thread.

It was such a pleasure to talk with you about your take on custom knives.

Glad this one is in the minority.:D

I know it's a sin, but that is a "Covet" knife for sure!

I met Bing this year. He treated me like a long time friend. Great guy, great maker!

Don't worry Bob, I may be jealous that you were quick enough to snag this beautiful Blue Fossil Walrus but at least I am not Blue over it.
