Hey guys, any of you have the Brunton 7DNL compass? Does it work pretty well? I noticed it is the one in the RAT Basic survival kit and though, If the Rat guys like it it must be good. So I bought one today at Cabelas with a gift card I got for Christmas. I got it because when I posted pics of my survival kit/bug out bag last summer, lots of comments were made that I should invest in a better compass. I wouldnt mind having one of those 50 or 60 dollar ones, but Dont have the $ to spend on one right now.

Also got some wetfire tinder, and some replacement UCO candles for my new candle lantern. Good giftcard!

I don't have any experience with that particular model, but my Brunton Adventure Racing compass was OK up until the other day. I hit it or smashed it in the bag and the bezel ring and all just popped right out. I put it all back together, but now the declination compensation is shot and I just don't trust it anymore. I've gone back to the USGI model until I can find a real ranger or similar model.

if it is a Brunton it is good to go.... never hurts to own a good backup compass it just a base model or good starter compass but down the road I would invest in a better compass and make that one your back up
