Got a catalog today that showed a picture of a Brunton Outback Digital Compass.
Has anyone here used one and if so what are your comments on it.

i.e. ease of use
accuracy
repeatability
ruggedness
have you ever used it for orienteering?

Thanks in advance

One thing you may want to consider about the digital compass is, what powers it and what might happen if the source fails, I use an Eagle GPS but never hit the bush without my SILVA RANGER compass I used this compass on a whole lot of Patrols when I was in the Army, GPS was just a baby then and only the SF Teams and Seal teams had them, I just like the thought of not having to worry about my navigaton gear not working!! The little digital compass seem to be a good idea and I would like to try one, I just know that my SILVA want fail me!

Thanks for the comments. I too would not got without a Silva type or Brunton Eclipse type and or my Swiss Army compass. However, the Brunton Outback has a battery life of 200 hours using lithium batteries (of course I would have a couple of spares on me too). It just seems that digital is so much quicker while following a course plus it has "backtrack" capabilities which I like and stores multiple routes.
