Does anyone know of any fairly cheap bush knives besides the Moras? I'm looking to buy a good, solid knife but don't have over 80$ to spend. Thanks!

What do you think of the Condor Bushcraft ?

Well...for $10 more you can get a ESEE 3. Or you can pick up something from Ka-Bar. Becker range.....Cant really think of anything else right now.....there are also some good Kershaw fixed blades in that range....those are not really bushcraft knives, but the Condor seems like a good knife!

Here is another one....

$40 at the utmost....home made....ha ha!

Thanks guys, I'm looking over that Condor and the Helle knives. By the way, how do you pronounce Helle? Is it pronounced hell or helly? Thanks again.

I say the best kept secret is the Ontario Ranger Shiv... It is right at a 4" cutting length, spear point, and also 1095.... So it takes an extreme edge and holds it for a VERY long time..... I love the knife. It is lighweight yet still very strong with it's full tang. You will have to knock off the steep bevels though as the edge is pretty fat how it comes. But that's the same with the ESEE knives too. Here are some pics... It is the top one with the orange handle. You can get them from 40-60 bucks.

Dumb question, but are you in England? Or where?

www.graywolfknives.com has some sweet blades at great prices, but I'm not sure if they ship overseas.

I'm originally from England, but now I'm in the States. I'll check out that website, on a quick glance, it seems like they have some nice, rugged designs. Which is good. Sometime if the knife is too nice, I'm afraid to use it.

Again, that might be a knife worth checking out. By the way, what is the knife that's the third one down? I love the grind on it. Thanks.

That would be the spyderco bushcraft 2nds. For a while spyderco had these on their website for 80 something bucks. I missed that but I did find one here on the forums for around the same price. It is a very nice knife!!! But.. .if I was to choose only one knife it would be the busses, because it is viturally indestructable, and the shiv after that because with the G10 and 1095 steel, it is right behind the busse in the bombproof deparment. I always have the shiv in my truck.

I've talked to Aaron at graywolf and he's a good guy. I see several of those knives in my future, both in wood and micarta. Kind of local to my area too, so that makes it even better.

Great call! The Ranger Shiv is really overlooked as a bushcraft knife.

Heck yeah, you can get a nice heavy-duty outdoors knife for $80!

Check out the Bushcraft Basic (three different sizes) and Bushlore from Condor (made in El Salvador). Both are carbon steel and cost about twenty-five bucks each. One is ~much~ thicker than the other. I really like the blade shape of their Sapiens knife, but I don't have one of those yet.

From the Scandinavia region, check out Ahti, Helle, Karesuando, and Marttinni. Each of those should have a selection in your price range. More expensive than a Mora, but a higher level of finish.

A carbon steel USMC from KaBar is well under $80.

Surprisingly, the Becker line are mostly under $80 too. Campanion, Combat Utility, or Combat Bowie.

Happy Shopping!

Alright mate, thanks!

Actually Helle are great knives. And I think it is pronounced Hell-ya...but I'm not sure about that.
