Greetings all.

A while back, Lin posted up a series of brut-de-forge knives with sheephorn handles, each of which struck a chord with me. I've always liked this type of knife for the simple, elemental expression of the forged blade that it represents.

One was small:

One medium:

And one large:

So guess which one made the trip north? :D

Kenny Rowe and Coop made contributions along the way:

My only regret is that I didn't snag that little one to make a matched set, but beyond that I am very well pleased with this piece.

Thanks for looking.

Thank YOU for showing!! Beautiful knives and sheat....and that decorative bolster is something new that i like!!!

Congrats my friend.....that thing is magnificent! I've got to get with Lin one of these days....soon! ;)

Beautiful Roger, how about a Lorien style video with you chopping away at something! I'd like to see that beast eat. :D

I would be only too happy to help :)

I think "Brut" fits this one nicely. A beauty of a beast--congrats, Roger!

Great knife and the forged detail work at the ricasso is stunning. Great addition to your collection Roger.

That sucker can forge a knife. His smithing skills has really gotten good. His ability to make one cut has always been there. Nice package.

Lin can cut. Saw him throw a pc of rope in the air and cut it....no kidding! Great knife.

Hello Roger!

Congrats on an excellent piece! What's not to like about that raw, yet refined look!

I'm sure Lorien would give it a good workout... ;)

All the best,
Alex

Never seen one of Mr. Rhea's knives I didn't like....well...in pictures anyway. I'd imagine they're ever cooler in person.

Thanks very much for the comments, gents. I expect that I would relish the opportunity to chop, hack and slash stuff with this knife but the truth is that the knives I most regularly use tend to be of the smaller hunter / utility size, and I already have a couple big working knives for those less frequent occasions where I need one. So this one is destined to be enjoyed for its design, execution and craftsmanship, and I'll have to be satisfied with the knowledge that like any quality knife, fancy or plain, it is more than capable of functioning very well as a tool if called upon.

I'm happy to see you are enjoying the knife Roger. The sheath turned out very nice as well.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Coop, my hat is off again to you for such a fine photograph.

This knife was forged from 1075 steel and I did indeed perform several cutting tests including chopping dry oak, and old antler, among others. It will serve you well should you ever see the need Roger.

What an excellent knife - the ricasso work in front of the scales is a very nice touch.

Of that I have no doubt, Lin. Thanks again, all.
