Brut de Forge on M390 Question

Would it make sense to forge M390 to create a brut de forge finish, or is that doing a disservice to M390 and its tight PM microstructure?

Or, can brut de forge be a "surface" treatment to create the look, while not really forging the knife, shaping it, etc.?

Just curious and thanks in advance.

Bump - looking for guidance on this. Thanks in advance.

Many of us have seen this, but are not answering.......because....it's kind of a silly question.

It would not benefit from being forged....at all. No stainless steel, especially "super stainless steels" BENEFIT from being forged to shape.

So......you are asking about a performance stainless steel being treated to look like it was forged out of a carbon steel....sure....it can be done.....but why?

If the answer is "because I want it".......good luck in your quest to have something that makes no sense to MANY of the folks on this forum.

Something like CruForge V may be a reasonable compromise.

Steve's right wrt the forging thing. Forging these types of alloys only introduces uncertainty into the edge holding, stainlessness, etc.
If you want 'the look', you could keep the mill scale on it where the bevels aren't.

If you're just looking for affect you could tumble or acid etch then finish the bevels satin.

Thanks for all the good points and ideas. The uncertainty of compromising on M390's integrity is a good point.
