Brute de Forge Camp Knife

Hi Gents



I've just finished this Brute de Forge camp knife, the blade is forged from EN45, blade length is just shy of 240mm, it is 6mm thick on the spine with an overall length of 365mm. The cutting edge has a shallow recurve, the blade flats have been left with the forge scale on and the secondary bevel has a forced acid etch patina. The finger choil has been flared in that Brute de Forge style, the full tang is tapered with tan Micarta scales, blue liners and two S/S Corby bolts. The leather sheath is wet formed, dyed saddle tan, the belt keeper has been cut through the welt in the mountain man style and the welt has been stitched with blue thread to match the scale liners.

Really like the finger stop st the choil

Leather looks well designed and executed

If you really want something special Taper the tang

Here we go a shot of the handle, the tang is not overly tapered. Its just shy of 4mm at the butt compared to the blade which is 6mm thick.

 
Thank you for all of your comments and observations gents, they really are very much appreciated. The brute de forge finger choil was at the request of the customer. He had seen the brute de forge Bowie that I had made and really liked it. Putting it on a hard use camp knife has worked really well.

Yeah, I like it as when you're doing heavy chopping it provides a nice wide space for the finger to fore finger to push into...it doesn't create as much of a pressure point, but what I never liked about them was usually the bare tang behind. What you did with the scales, bringing it up behind the choil is really a nice touch.
 
Excellent choice of materials, finishes, and textures. As others have said that finger guard is well executed!
