Well, my new Becker Brute arrived this week. In a word, incredible! I'm going to have fun with this knife!

Anyhoo, I was looking at the nicely-made sheath, and suddenly it hit me...."Wouldn't it be great if I "piggybacked" a small fixed blade to the Brute sheath???" I would have a great knife combo - the Brute for chopping, digging, hammering, and prying, and the small fixed blade for fine work. There seems to be plenty of room on the sheath (as well as lashing points) to attach a small knife (or knife pouch). It would have to be relatively flat (probably without scales). I was thinking about an Arclite, thought I'm not all that crazy about the steel. Or maybe one of Newt Livesays neck knives, such as the Lil' Pecker or Celt.

What do you think?

Any other small fixed blade suggestions???

I have two to recommend. My personal favorites are the REKAT Utility (RUK) and the Livesay Woo. The REKAT is a little hard to find due to the fact that they have reportedly discontinued production. This is a shame as it was one of their best designs.

I have just acquired my Woo and I've gotta tell 'ya I am impressed! This is a really nifty blade. I carry mine in its sheath which is under the pouch on my NEF Survivor. This is great set up for a self contained emergency kit right on the rifle.

I have explored the idea of piggybacking it onto the sheath for my ATAX but it would require drilling an extra hole in the sheath (for the Woo) which I am not yet willing to do.

Good luck in your search.:)

Great idea!!! I wish I'd thought of it. I will use it though:) Since I have a Brute,Machax, and Camp I'll try to make 1 sheath to fit all three. I'll try to get some pics when I'm done.

Beautiful!!! That is exactly what I have in mind for the Brute. Believe me, if I didn't have all my play money wrapped up in other projects, I'd have to get an Armaggedon SKS!!! :D

Squid;
I made a piggy back for my Fallkniven A1/F1. Its more like a frog with both knives using only 1 belt loop.
What do you have to piggyback with the Brute?
I could think of a lot of knives that would work well (Trace style) like say a Talon or even the mini-Talon. If you have an F1 Fallkniven then that would be a nice companion to the Brute.
I also have the Brute and am thinking of piggybacking somethin to it also. Just have not decided which one yet....hmmm think I will use one of my F1's. :D

That idea rocks!

I read this and immediately broke out the Brute and starting pulling out smaller blades to try on it.
That Brute sheath will accomodate knives with blades as large as 5".
I believe Muzzleup has hit on the right combo with the Fallkniven F1.
But! The Spyderco Moran also pairs up with the Brute pretty nicely too as does the Nimravus Cub and the Fallkniven WM1. DAMN! This is fun! Time to break out the Kydex!

Ooh! Ooh! If ya have any of Bob Dozier's sub 4" bladed fixed blades, I bet that would pair up extremely nicely.:D

Sounds like Misque is hot on the trail and now he has me dragging out a buch more knives too.
Hey, how about a Fallkniven F1 AND the WM1 or even the G1 GARM as a "tri-carry"...they will all fit on the Brute sheath...damn, now I have knives laying all over the place looking for a fit on the Brute.  :D

This is going to be fun!!!

Thanks for everyone's input!!!

I'm thinking I might want to keep it "in the Camillus family"...so I'm leaning towards a Talon!!! Besides, I'm dying to see for myself if this talonite thing is as good as everyone says!:D

I first remember seeing a "piggyback" combo a year or two back when I saw Scott Evans (I believe Edgeworks was the name of his company) put together a Busse Steel Heart, Mean Street, spark rod, and diamond sharpener together in a single kydex belt sheath. I thought it was freakin' awesome!!!

Once I figure out which small blade to go with, I'd like to put together something similar to the package above. I think the only thing to do in addition is wrap the whole enchilada up in some paracord.

FWIW (and I don't recall if/when I saw this before, so excuse me if I inadvertantly steal someone's idea), another option is to add split rings to any of the various lashing points, and attach the following -whistle, Photon, small compass, etc. You get the idea.

You wont go wrong with any of the knives mentioned, the Becker blades are AWESOME for the price... Like I said if you have any questions about rigging your system let me know..
Also there is nothing to stop you from rigging your setup with various small knives, that perform different tasks for different situations as well... Hope this helps ya..

Take Care

Hi Guys,
I don't have a Brute, but I piggybacked a magazine pouch to my Campanion that holds a Leatherman Supertool and a butane lighter. I also used the TecLock on my Spydie Moran to attach the same to the sheath also. I used about 35' of milspec paracord for the supertool pouch, so I would hace plenty of cordage. It works quite well. Kelly:D

just rigged up one :)

becker brute, and attached my raker joeker to it. i ran the leg strap on the brute sheath thru the tec lock a couple of times and then got some sturdy cord and looped it through the holes on both sheath to make it a little more secure. will post pics ASAP.

Very cool, MAURICE!!!

Looking forward to the pics!

I was playing around with the sheath last night, trying to rig it up to one of the only small fixed blades I have, an Ericcson (sp?) Mora (which, by the way, I picked up from the late, great James Mattis - in fact, I bought all my Moras from him). Fit was very good. Heck, I'm so impressed with both knives, I just may stick with this combo!!!

Just finished doing a piggyback with the Fallkniven F1 in its full cover leather sheath. Wrapped 550 cord through the holes/slots in the Brute sheath and through the belt loop of the leather sheath and kept wrapping until I started wrapping around the outside of the F1 sheath and tied it off in the back of the Brute sheath. Holds the F1 very securely, so much so that I had to add a lanyard to the tang hole in the F1 to give me something to grab onto.

I think this is going to work for me. Might even stick a ferrocium rod under the 550 cord of fire stating too.

This is great!

I seem to be havng an identity crisis lately. I keep switching from a big chopper/utility knife combo to a medium knife with a hatchet for the chopping duties. But whenever I AM carrying a big blade, it always has a small blade for the more delicate chores. It's also a great idea to attach a pouch that holds so much *more* than you could possibly lash to the sheath itself.

For my khukuri (which is still in the original Nepalese sheath), I used a Mora #1 as my utility blade. By making a simple cut, I was able to fit the Mora in the sheath where the chakma and karda normally go. With the small knife covered, I used a single mag M-14 pouch to hold a complete mini survival kit. You can even get a couple of small sharpening stones and a bottle of LSA in there too. On the sheath for my large bowie, I taped a throwing knife sheath to the back, in addition to havng it set up identically to my khukuri. That way I have an emergency spear head, if I'm down to making weapons with just my knife kit.

While lashing things to you sheath is a good start, pouches allow you to carry more, and make it easily accesible. After all, you wouldn't want to have to unravel all of your 550 cord just to get to your sparking rod. :~}

Now if I could just figure out if I'm a big knife guy, or a medium knife and hatchet guy. Decisions, decisions.

i've been planniing on adding a Cold Steel Bird & Trout to my Brute. already have a GI M9 pistol mag pouch ziptied onto the sheath for firestarter and other small goodies.

Hello,
A friend gave me a good idea a while back, one which I have used on all my small fixed blades.
Go get a bicycle replacement tube (bigger size) and cut off a small 2-3" piece of it. You can pull this over any small fixed blade sheath (with a little difficulty-kinda tight) and use it for a Pouch.
The tube is tight enough to slide stuff into without worry of it falling out and you got enough of it to play with. (I still have lots left from my first tube)
I usually keep a mini-bic, sharpening steel, and whatever other small items I feel I need to put in there!

Thanks Russ for this idea.
