One side of my G10 scales feels smoother than the other side. In fact, it feel very smooth, compared to what it should.

Anyone else have similar scales?

On purpose, or a fluke?

Which model? I assume its a Buck Strider from the post title..

Most likely it is a bad side that didn't get caught in our process.

Feel free to send it Attn: Jeff Hubbard
c/o Buck and I'll get it fixed for you.

Hey that's nice of you.

I'm going to hold off sending it around for a bit. I'm going to use it for now and test if I can live with a bit less grip.

But I hate to be mailing my knives out. Cause I need it.

But thanks for the offer. Impressed with your service.

Midget, we both seem to be dealing with our Buck/Striders at the same time. :) I haven't got many problems with mine, just that I want the dual thumbstuds. Mick hasn't replied to my question in your post yet. Do let us know how the dual studs work out.

But an observation on the G10, I've noticed that both of mine weren't exactly as grippy as I thought they'd be. Everyone says that they'll scratch anything up, mine feel just about right. Plus there's no sharp corners, so I'm wondering if the scales were ever filed down. Probably my good luck in getting an excellent specimen of a B/S. The grippiness is such that it locks in your hand, but it goes into pants pockets with just a slight scratching sound. :)

The clip wasn't as tight as I like them to be, especially for such a long clip, so I just threw that thing in a vise and bent it a little. Now it works great!

Bought my Buck/Strider from MOJO here at BF. I've given mine a name, it's called... "DESTRUCTION". Hehe.

Midget, Let me know if you change your mind. I personally like the G-10 a little smother.. doesn't tear up my pants that way..:D

Alpha,
Contact Joe Houser on the Thumb studs. The G-10 should have had any filing done.. I will go review the process and parts and see what is up. Thank you for the heads up.

My scales are a little less abrasive than the knurling on a Surefire E2e-HA. So I guess they're up there in terms of being abrasive, but it's just not as sandpapery as I'd expected it to be (which is a very, very good thing! :)).

The reason I thought that it was filed down was that the edges of the scale on the left side of the knife (the non-clip side) have an approximately 45 degree incline to them on the long side. It's not very wide, it's under 1 mm in width, so you can't notice it unless you really look at it closely. But it's inconsistent in that the scales on the other side of the knife have a much less wide inclined edge. It makes the knife more comfortable to hold though.

Really not a big deal to me. I think that it's just the process of making and "snapping" off the G10 from sheets that causes the slight differences, and not filing. On a closer inspection, I see marks indicative of filing at last inch of the knife starting from the clip base (only on the clip side). Is this done so that the clip can get a good purchase on the scale? Again, a good thing in my book.

Just trying to be thorough with my description. I don't think it's a
manufacturing problem.

I contacted Joe Houser through email regarding the dual thumb studs. Thanks.
