Anyone else love the BSA Hot Spark? I think a Hot Spark was my first ferro rod several years ago and they are still one of my favorites because of their handy size and price. They are not quite as easily usable as a larger model like the ESEE Fire Steel but they are handy.

ESEE isn't the only one who can do giveaways!!! Check out the Hot Spark give away here: http://jerkingthetrigger.wordpress.com/2010/06/15/jerking-the-trigger-on-facebook-giveaway/

Having a scout store around the corner from me helps. I've got more than a few of them on keychains and such. Nice little piece of gear:)

Got my when I was probably 8 for selling $X00 worth of popcorn. What a prize at $3. :D

Staring at one on my keychain right now. If ever near another scout store, I plan to buy several more. Great piece of kit.

Anything to start a fire is a great piece of kit if it works, IMO. And it works.

My first as well. I've actually gotthe website bookmarked intending to grab a few more. Just can't seem to get an order large enough to justify the $7 shipping yet, lol. My old one should be floating around somewhere....

They used to cost a lot less than $3. :)

I remember purchasing mine for around $7.99 from a local BSA store/council office about 20 years ago. I remember because my father said why do you want to spend almost ten bucks on that thing when you know how to make fire so many different ways that don't cost anything. Needless to say he bought one for himself a couple of months later :D

The Hot spark is one of my favorites also. I keep mine attached to the back of my sheath so I always have a back up.

isn't that the same or similar to the LMF mini ?
I have 3 LMF vesion.. I had one on my key chain and the rod just fell out of the handle... so I tossed the handle may try one of these...
I would not fret over the price , as time passes the price only goes up ?

I think the rod is the same diameter as the LMF Mini but it is shorter in overall length. The handle is the same length as the Mini but it is a slimmer design.

When I was a kid, I literally wore one down to a nub from using it so often. I still carry one on my keyring, and my daughter has one in her school backback (along with her "contraband" SAK and other "Just In Case" stuff.

I think it is the perfect size to put in a neck knife kit, like this...

(that's the end of it sticking out from under the rubber...)

You can go the local scout store, and they can order them in for you, no shipping charge. That is what I ended up doing. And at the price, I bought three of them.

Here is a comparison image... With a Super Striker for more comparison value...
