I was once again the beneficiary of the extreme generosity that goes on around this place. Glennbad who does such phenomenal work with old slip joints worked his magic again on this old Scout whittler. I entered his giveaway due to my involvement with Boy Scouts both as a former Eagle Scout and more recently as a Assistant Scoutmaster for my son's troop, this whittler arrived at the perfect time the day before leaving for summer camp with the troop it immediately displaced my Case 62087 jack knife for pocket duty last week. This knife performed all tasks admirably from opening blister packages to actually helping a young man whittle a gift for his mother a simple but rather crude canoe to represent his merit badge class for the week. When dressing for return to the real world this morning I reached automatically for the BSA knife as it is still in the process of earning its keep. The most important part about this particular knife is the interest that my son has in it I am purposely using it a lot especially around him so when he earns his Eagle Scout and I give it to him with a guarantee that he will give something back to a Scout troop in the future like my Scoutmaster did to me with a special handmade neckerchief slide 30+ years ago he will truly understand what this Eagle Rank represents. Even with all the political correctness running rampant I still believe that the BSA is a great foundation for young men to grow into responsible patriotic citizens. Thanks for letting me ramble and share about this awesome gift. Would love to post pics but cant figure it out.

I hope it's not too forward of me to post pics from my GAW thread...

I am glad you liked it and were able to put it to "official" use. As I mentioned to you, I was a den leader and an Assistant CubMaster in Cubs when my son was in, some of the most fun and rewarding time I have ever spent. I am proud of all the boys in my den, one even becoming a marine. (My son didn't turn out too shabby either, LOL). That I was able to teach these boys and help mold their minds in a positive way fills me with a pride that I can't put into actual words. I admire what you are doing as well, as I think there is a severe lack of this type of mentoring and leadership these days.

I sincerely hope scouting remains for many years to come. Ask many men what they remember from their youth, and scouting memories seem to be high on the list.

Thumbs up to you for all you do!
