Hello ,
I want to buy a 10 inch bowie blanc from sheffield knives and put some scales on it myself. There where no specs on the website so I enquired with the magnufacturer and got the following response:
The blade is approx 6.5mm thick, hardened to C52 Rockwell, the blades are laser cut and then ground and polished by hand. The are mde from BSM 971 Carbon Steel with the following spec.
C 0.770
Si 0.220
Mn 0.730
P 0.011
S 0.004
Cr 0.190
Mo 0.001
Ni 0.018
Cu 0.012
Sn 0.002
Al 0.030
So my question is the blade not too soft for a chopper should it not be more around 56-58 rockwell? Has anyone ever heard of this steel? It seems to have some unusual componets. Thank you for your input.
