Which is better? I'm talking about benchmade's coating. I've heard that BT2 can scratch of easily.

Thanks!

Jeff

Jeff,
Satin finish from Benchmade is a very very nice finish. I've bought BT2 coating blades before, and I like them, but they do tend to get scratched easier. Nothing looks worse than a bright silver colored scratch mark on a black coating.

A choice would imply that you are getting a 154CM or ATS-34 blade. In that case, I vastly prefer the satin finish blades. Scratches can be touched up with sand paper.

Are you going to make the choice between M-2 and ATS-34 based on the blade coating?

If so, my recommendation is still for the satin finished ATS-34 blade. The M-2 blade is better steel, tougher, longer edge holding, but it only comes BT2 coated. If you are making the choice based on performance, get the BT2 coated M-2 blade.

i know and have fallen prey to the good looks of the bt2 coating however scatches will always be present in a blade and cannot be avoided. though scratches appear on a satin blade, it must be known that if a very fine sand paper was used the scratches can be filed down then the blade can be polished later. this will bring the blade close to factory sheen. but once a scratch appears on a bt2 coated blade the scratch will be a perment scar. thats y i seldom use my bt2 coated knives to avoided scarring them...
