http://bubblejig.com/ will tell you all about the bubble jig, click on the "Videos" and watch those. Fred does a great job of demo'ing the bubble jig.
Surface grinding? Never heard of it being used for that, and don't see how it could possibly be used for surface grinding..... maybe you meant "bevel grinding"?

No, Im sure it was surface grinding. I think Fred Rowe mentions doing a future video on the subject in one of his older videos, but I cant seem to find any info other than that.
You are correct. I did promise to make a video on how to use this tool to grind distal taper as well as how to set it up to grind non ferrous materials, such as bone, antler, copper and how to surface grind them. Now I feel like I must follow thru with making said video. I don't recommend it being used where high heat can affect the rare earth magnet. My magnet supplier tells me it will take temperatures in the mid 300 fh range.
@Fred: I'm glad you chimed in with info about your bubble jig. I can well see how the bubble jig could be used for distal grinding the tang, but that's not surface grinding - not as I know surface grinding anyway. Fred, can you comment on the idea of using the bubble jig for actual surface grinding?
You're right on high temps removing the magnetic properties of the rare earth magnet. I've done that in the past on overheating a magnet (not on my bubble jig).
