Just a teaser more photos tomorow. 3/16ths 1095 hardened to A Rc 60 or so, all are 7 inches long with mirror finishes. The top one is Bubinga middle is Rosewood and the bottom is select Walnut. All are hair popping sharp
Very sleek, Ken. On the bottom one with the walnut handle, I can't tell for certain but it looks like there is a faint hamon, which leads me to ask - are these differentially hardened, or am I just imagining it?
When I harden them I use a torch. Heating from the spine to the edge so as not to warp the steel (edge). As it happens some time the edge winds up quite a bit hotter than the spine when I quench it. This is an effect I sometimes get. Does this make it a hamon? Technically I guess it is but its not what I am aiming for. FOr what its worth it happens more frequently with hollow ground blades than those I make with a flat platen. Ken
