There is something neat about the 005LE Generation 5 skinner. It is a neat design - looks like a great handle, too. Sadly, the $300 MSRP probably did more than a little in halting my purchase. Not to worry, a chap on Evil-Bay had two for 10% off his regular $190, which wasn't a bad price to begin with. I was about to put one on plastic, as if i were the government, when he announced both were gone. Saved!
Ah, but several days have passed - and I looked at a favorite Buck m.o. source - new for 2008 - an 005RW and two more variants. The RW has CM154 steel and a rosewood handle - with checkering (I have sandpaper ...) - and a brass finger guard. Their price? $88 --I might be able to afford that. What better way to spend my economic impact check? Reportedly, there is a less expensive variant in 420HC with a 'charcoal' wood grip - and Al finger guard. There also is a $420 dress-up version, new for this year. Look out for a leather gripped 119, too. If the goodies drag out their arrival to fall, as my 408 & 419 Kalinga Pro's did last year, that check will go for increased fuel and A/C expenses this summer. That would be tragic!
