Is there info out there on this model?

Is this one fake?

All that I see are either in China or on the bay apparently sourced from Asia.

But I really like the design of this knife, reminds me of my Kabar 1247 Warthog.

This pic comes from the same company that manufactures those kabar USMC knock offs and claim it to be a genuine 1217.

Is there a legitimate version of this blade out there with a good rep?

OK, JB I got the cart before the horse on it being a fake let me get it back..

These are real oversea's made Buck knives. These are SO knives made for RMEF. I asked Buck's Joe Houser about these when they first came out.

That's the thing about power, you have to know how to use it. I have lost the post, just call me a Congressman....will keep looking.

OK, its all together in one thread, moderators get no pay and only on the job training, so thanks for giving me this experience. 300

This one is problematic as there was once a legitimate run of these knives contracted by Buck.
China has been cranking them out en mass ever since. If it is sourced directly from China it is illegitimate.
If sourced in the USA only only knowledge of it's provenance will help. I would be suspicious if it doesn't have
a Buck Inc. bar code label.

So are there still "real" current versions or is it a one time product being cranked out without licence/commission

There's apparently 2 versions, One 8cr13MOV and the other "fake" (according to the Chinese) 3cr13MOV

Yes sir, you should be hurt but only a little. I moved your post to where it actually would have been best to post. The sticky at the top of the forum titled 'Fakes'. I was then giving you a chance in the regular forum because of what JB said. But, have "misplaced" your thread somewhere along the way.

What they are telling you is that the knife was once a special order made by Bucks China division for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. But now have become counterfeited. If it was not originally purchased from the RMEF via Buck USA or from someone who bought it in that manner, then it is likely a fake. If they are offered on the big auction spot with place or origin as China then be careful.

As you surmise they describe the possibility of two versions. One the original RMEF knife and the other fake.

I asked this very same question early last year. See this thread....

If it is sourced directly from China it is illegitimate in that it was not authorized or ordered by Buck. If sourced in the USA only only knowledge of it's provenance will help.
I would be suspicious if the seller is also vending obvious counterfits. Also, Chinese counterfits do not have a Buck Inc. bar code label. The only way to know for sure is if the seller can show the knife was actually obtained thru
RMEF or one of it's events. HTH

I think we should ask Joe H if these are real or fakes.

The Buck 480 was a SO knife for RMEF, issued in 2007, with 100,000 ordered.

To my knowledge it was a one time deal in the past.

The fakes are all over the 'net, including Ali and ePrey, from $9.00 - $3x.00. ALl but one I have seen come in soft sheaths that look pretty useless for protecting your bod from the edge. One came in a Kydex sheath, but I was afraid to pull the trigger due to all the fakes.

THANK YOU! Post 73 in that thread covered this model.

I have heard about fakes and fakers.

The knife shown in the OP here - or something like it - came up on ePrey. The sheath made me suspicious as well as the box. A Google of the model brought me here.

I understand the model is no longer sold by Buck, so I was hoping to find one on the secondary market, but it's not worth the risk of supporting the bottom feeders.
