I was cleaning out my grandma's place, and i found my grandpa's buck 102 fixed blade it has about a four in. blade. He didn't use it and its a little small for me, but i was looking it up for a price check and the sheath for the one i have is totaly different for the one on the internet.

I dont have pictures but its a pouch like thing with a button up flap that covers the butt of the knife... is this a different knife or did it just come with a different sheath. and how much do these sell for?

I am new to buck sorry if i sound uninformed... :D

Same knife...just that the older ones came with the flap sheath. Newer ones come with a more fitted style sheath that buttons over the handle leaving the butt and guard exposed.

It really depends on age and condition. Check completed Fleabay auctions for Buck 102. Ballpark you are looking at $25-$40 unless it is really old. What exactly is stamped on the tang?

its is pretty much mint besides, the fact it doesn't come with a box or papers (if they actully do) on the sheath is says 102 and i dont have is on me now, but it looks like all the pictures i have seen, just a different sheath.

They did come with box and papers, and the stamp on the tang will set the price for sure! If it were stamped BUCK only it is worth alot more than a Buck 102/ stamp!
Also to a "collector" :D some may be looking to fill a void in their display/collection. The # of handle spacers and type all can affect value. Some also prefer the older 440C blades and will pay more for them than the 420HC. All different types of things affect value, its a tough call without a better description or pictures. Sorry.

No but the tang stamp will help! Certain years were known to have a certain steel.
The stamp will clear (almost) anything up, (along with handle spacers) :D

On the base of the blade its says EXACTLY...

BUCK
102 /
U.S.A

I think the slash means something...???

is that 440HC or a rarer steel? I dont want to be under sold on this because i am new so how much is this thing worth ruffly??? :)

There you go. Ain't nothin special that can't be bought today, but a dang fine little knife that I would hang on to ifn it was your granddads. It's worth a lot to have a grandfathers knife. It's 15 years old now.

I'd keep it and use it on small game and fish and light camp duty or a car knife. It's a good one. Nothing special about the one you have, except it's your grandads. Might become your favorite all time knife.

not to bang on Buck (really don't want to start something)... but dont think he liked the knife that much since he didn't use it... he used utility knifes and gerbers most of the time...

Well it would seem that maybe he didn't like it. But it's a good knife. I would enjoy it and one day give it to your kid and tell him it was his great granddads.

Pretty much spot on ;) With that model stamp and flap over? sheath I would guess it would sell for less than $40.00. A brand new one is right around 40.00. Good luck!

Family man? Well, I have my grandfathers knives, as will my son. You're the one asking questions for free information, evan after you were given your answer. Freeloader, just thick headed or can't remember the answere, either way, you don't have to be a jerk.

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, and once I got it, I don't need to be nice no mo.
