Classic knife to be sure, I was just wondering if anyone knows what the Tang is like? full? through Stick? and how wide it is in the handle, Thanks.

Welcome Riley.I've seen them in Buck's factory and those looked over 1/4".More like 3/8"
hidden tang.Should be ample strength for the knife, as I've not heard of a failure.DM

If the new ones are anything like the old ones, its a through tang. My old one from 1960's has the butt aged enough with scratches and dings, that you can see the outline of the pin that goes through the butt and blade tang at the rear of the knife.

It is a rat tail tang with a hole in the end. We drill through an aluminum butt and punch a rivet through. If you look at the hole in the aluminum guard trim where the blade disappears into the handle you will get a good idea of how wide the tang is

BTW...the 102 was my first knife at 12 years old. Wish I knew where that was...

So even CJ can't locate his first Buck, that's a relief actually, I thought I was the only one who didn't have it. I traded my first ever Buck, a 110 that I carried in my back pocket in school every day (try that nowadays!) for a pair of nunchaku-what a dope!

PS-I know it's been said before but how awesome is it that Rescue got an answer to his question in 6 mins. and then an answer from the CEO of the company in less than 90 mins! Buck people are good people.

My Dad was never into large "deer knives" so my first fixed blade was a 102. Now I'm like my Dad, other than skinners, I don't like a large fixed blade for butchering deer. Love the 102 and own several!
