Buck 103 Sheath Knife?

I have a Buck 103 sheath knife I purchased for 50% retail because it was a "discontinued" model. The blade looks something like a "butter knife" shape. I like the shape a lot. Is this blade shape discontinued? What years were the 103 produced?

The 103 Skinner is still in production. It has a black handle with silver colored aluminum hilt and pommel. Black leather sheath. It retails for $65.00. If you got it for $32.50, that was quite a deal, regardles of what the dealer told you.

OTOH, if you got a 103BR, that WAS discontinued in 1999. It has a brown Cocobola handle with brass hilt and pommel. It has a burgandy colored leather sheath. The last retail on that knife was $90.00.

The 103 Skinner was first produced way back in the 50's. It was known as a model 110 back then. The first black phenolic handled skinner was made in 1961. Depending on the age of the knife, it could possibly be worth much more than the same 103 made today.

The 103 Skinner above is what I bought. Evidently last year's version or something. I paid $26.00 for it. Hell of a deal!

Drop,

You did good on that one for sure!

Great deal. It's not really "last years version", since it's a perennial that's been in production since 1961 with the same model number and basic design. (Of course the experts here can tell various eras, and their have been a few special versions). There haven't been any changes in the current production one since the flap-over sheath was changed out and the 440C blade steel was changed, which I think both took place in the late 1990s. (And if I got that wrong someone please correct me.)
