But in near darkness, two miles from the truck, light snow and 16 degrees that is a important thing to not have to do.

I was thinking of getting one for use while deer hunting.

Is a 470 Mentor a buck knife?
jeff
Yes, but you'd have to crawl into the body cavity.chickentrax said:But if the Elk only loses 1* of body heat per hour (thanks, CSI!), shouldn't the residual heat keep you warm??? Just kind of snuggle up, feel around until you find the tarsal glands, pull your Buck sheath over your nose, and start skinning...and wait for dawn...

Hawkeye5 said:Also how bo you know if a 103 was made in the 1960's?
and is the steal the same as a new one?
Jeff
If I'm not mistaken (I don't have my copy of Blade's guide with me) the number was added about 1969 for the fixed blades when they began offering the knives to Canada. If I'm wrong, I'm sure Larry or somoeone else will correct me.pjsjr said:Jeff, I'm fairly certain that if the knife has Buck USA(two liner) that it was made in the sixties and would be 440C steel. Buck began putting the model number on around 1972 ie BUCK 103 USA. Maybe someone with more knowledge will be along and expand ours. Preston
