I was just wondering if anybody has one that they use. I like the blade design, sort of reminds me of a Nessmuck.I don't have a buck fixed blade and was considering this one.
Thanks

Damn fine skinner. I highly recommend it. I have lots of good memories with that knife. And I still have it tucked away though don't use it much anymore. That's OK, it may be one of things that go in the box with me.

Dad gave me mine in 1980 and I've skinned a lot of deer with that thing. In fact more deer than I've killed. Back in the early 80's we were members of Cole's Creek Hunting Club which was located down on the Mississippi River flood plain (we just called it the "Swamp"). It was a deer a day limit and certain members would only take the hind quarters, backstraps, and sweet meat. So, my father put me and my younger brother to work salvaging the shoulders and neck meat off these. We had a meat grinder. Great times and I will always remember those opening days when the slaughter house was going to midnight cause the club would take 30 to 35 bucks deer that day and the they would be stacked up in rows while you waited your turn to process them.

Yep, get yourself a 103 its a classic.

The 103 is a great knife... The 117 Trophy set is all you need a 103 and a 116....

Thanks for the info guys.n ItTooEarly that is a great looking set of knives. Can they still be found?

Dispatch,

I probably see one every couple months trolling thought the muddy waters of the bay. Punching in 116 may be a good way to search-116 caper is discontinued.

yes, dispatch, they can still be found. I only searched a short time and found several sets. I bought the three different ones for only a few dollars.
All of them with the 103. But there is one missing with the hatchet.

Best,
Haebbie

Haebbie,

If you come back over for any big knife event, you got to bring the pink towel so we can have a group photo with it. It starting to be a icon. I may look for one and start using it as a photo background also....

HA HA HA!!! I forgot all about the pink towel. Funny 300, I was looking a Haebbie's pic and thinking "pink?". Then after reading your post I recalled us giving him a bit of fun over it. Thanks for the chuckle. Needed that today :D

Glad I found this thread. I have a 103 closet queen somewhere. Well, probably in the closet. Think it's one of those fancy dancer ones with etching or some other crap I'd be embarassed to poke a pickle out of a jar at a church picnic with. C'mon, you guys know what I mean, like showing up at camp with all your brand spankin' new Cabela's gear on.

Anyway, maybe I'll look into getting one to try as a user. I find that I use my 110 in the kitchen often. Think the 103 profile and ease of cleaning may be the ticket.

Yes, 300Bucks I'll try to do it. But I've to ask Nele first. In the last time she didn't allow me to use the towel for knife pic's. She is five years old now and she becomes to be six in the early July. And she knows what she wants exactly. But my motto is: "think pink" and don't give up the hope for using the towel again.

BA, I like the jokes around Neles towel. It was always a little highlight in the morning when I had a look what happened in the Blade Forums during the night before ((grin)).

Agree with you Haebbie and 334Dave...
This place is a nice, fun, and educational refuge. I've have met some great gents here. Well, haven't met any of you IRL, but ya know what I mean.

Anyway, found a pic of my 103. I recall getting it from a BBF. The reason I have not used it is not because it's a etched fancy dancer, but a nice one nonetheless.

TRAX!!! Are you still on dial-up? Thumbnail jus cuz I love you man!!!

Haebbie,I too have all three twin sets. The Trophy,Sportsman and Twin set.I noticed in your photo that the middle set (115) has the fold over sheath.I've been looking for one of those. As that twin set sheath is roomy enough for the 105 to fit beside the 103 instead of the 118.Which many purchasers did and to me makes for a better twin set or even better would be the 121 and 103.Just me.DM

We have a 1960's 103 up at our deer camp, it looks horrible but still does a great job on skinning our deer. It has easily skinned over 100 deer for us and I picked it up at an auction well used. Great knife.

The 103 is a great knife!!

I didn't knew how many of the skinner I have.

best,
Haebbie

((I didn't ask Nele about using the towel. She is in the kindergarten now so she can't have a look what am I doing with her towel ;-9))

Dispatch. I got one in 2004 or 5 and have used it to skin several deer.I also use it to scrape the flesh off the hides. If you get one you will find it useful for lots of cutting jobs.
