Just picked up 104 set ...there is no model # stamped on the sheath and both knives are three line 1973-1981..four red spacers ...is there any way to narrow down the date?

better pictures in the Sunday picture show:D

thank Bob

It's 1973 to 1980 unless the sheath will tell somebody something more specific.

That's assuming you know the sheath is the original......some sheaths move around.

Speaking of moving around......the spacers on that 103 kinda look like fiber. Straight lines going through them.....guess that's impossible. How do they look in person? A little different from the 102?

they look the same to me and I think they are fiber ...but I certianly am not a authority

Bad, I agree with the date. Too bad we cannot get closer for you as thats a fine set.The spacers are micarta. However, that sheath was only made for Buck one year 1968 as Joe H. has stated in another thread. Did you get the box? The set was simply called the 'Twin Set' and was the first of the twin sets after the 1961 naming. The other two twin sets are the 115 Sportsman combining the 103 & 118 and the TRophy set combining the 103 & 116. DM

Oh yeah, Badws.......new picture better on that 103. Looks like Micarta now (as is should).

Yes, in 1981 Buck removed one Micarta spacer from the guard, and the '72s had upside down stamp, so these would both be 1973 to 1980.

At least you know you have the good 440C steel for sure.

Maybe one of the sheath gurus here will be able to help a bit on that sheath.

Nice set of knives.

Its a Buck made sheath, It has no tooling on the belt loop. I believe in '69 Buck brought the sheath making in house.
