I have a Buck 106 Hunter's Axe that has been laying around in my safe for years. It has a rosewood handle and light-colored leather blade guard, and has a small cut-out for what I guess is a nail-puller. It has never been sharpened or used. Any ideas on its value?

Thanks

I am guessing that it is probably the one from 1997-98. I say that because during that timeframe we offered one with a red wood colored handle and tear drop cut out on the face. It came with a tan or natural color sheath.
My guess on value, if it is unused and in the original box with papers, is about $100, maybe a tad higher.
Looks like there were about 2600 of them made.

Boy is my face red....seems I paid quite a bit more for mine than that :(

Yours may be worth more...post a pic, and we'll see if others think it's worth more than $100... ;)

Thanks for the info! This sounds pretty much like the one. I think that is around the right timeframe, and the sheath is natural in color. I don't have the box or papers anymore because they probably got tossed when we moved. I would have thought the value to be a bit more if only 2600 were made, but then I don't know how this production quantity compares with other variations? Being a knife USER and not a COLLECTOR, I don't know whether to put it back up and see if it appreciates, or put it in with the camping gear and let it go chew some wood. Any suggestions? Honestly, I don't even carry hatchets anymore since I bought my first Swamp Rat Ratweiller a few years ago, so this one is "surplus to my needs".

2,600 isnt alot of pieces, but yet in the scheme of things it is :D
Models that have like 250 made appreciate alot faster, usually.

Use it or not, maybe 20 years from now it will be worth a tad more! Dont drive nails with it, just cut wood, and it may still appreciate anyway!
Good luck!

I was amazed at the phenolic handled 106 that sold for about $100. Maybe there are not very many guys online buying them and they all have that particular version now. Sounds silly but there could actually be some truth to that. For the longest time they were selling closer to $300.
