Buck 106 Question

Hoping Joe or someone in the know can answer this. I have a 106 Camp Ax with a black micarta(esque) handle and have been asked what steel was used. This ax was brought new in the mid '70's and comes with a leather Buck sheath.
I also am not sure if the handle is black micarta or some other material?

Any help on this would be much appreciated. I've attached a photo if this might be of any help.

The steel used for knives prior to 1981 was 440C, I would think that this would have been true for the 106 also. Hope this helps. Preston
