I think I know what I have but has any ody compiled a list of all the 106 varieties. I picked up a 2nd today. I have a like new without box 106 2 line black micarta that I have had for a while. Today I picked up a 3 line no date code rosewood with a few scratches. As far as I can tell from searching on here the black micarta is from 1971 and the rosewood with no date code is from 82-83.

Here is a list I compiled and posted in 2014.
I welcome any additions & corrections, adding the Compadre is the obvious place to start.
There would be an early version with BUCK on the head and not the handle.

1965 -1967 1-line phenolic handle, bone hard fiber spacers "HUNTERS AXE"
1967 2-line (USA added)
1969 spacers change to micarta
1971 black micarta handle, earliest are rare full wrap around with hidden tang
1972 3-line (model number added)
about 1972-1973 some burgundy micarta was used....??? (I'm guessing at this)
1983 handle changes to resin impregnated birch
1986 date codes begin
1993 last year in catalog..(for awhile)
1997-1998 reintroduced "CAMPERS AXE" 2" longer, birch handle
1999 black kydex handle, hang hole cutout
2000 black kydex handle, deer head cutout
2001 oak finish handle, deer head cutout (discontinued again after this year)

DeSotoSky that is the post I found and got the info for the black micarta one after searching. There wasn't anything in that post about the (what I think is) rosewood 3 line no date code model. Cant remember were I found the info that made me think that one is from 82-83 know though. Thank you for posting up on here for me though.

"1983 handle changes to resin impregnated birch"
What you call "Rosewood" is really the stain color but the actual wood species is Birch.
So, a (laminate) wood handle and no date code would be 83-85.

Oh ok got it I thought that was a vacuum impregnated resin that would look way different than straight wood. Thanks for following up and clearing it up.

It is a resin impregnated birch laminate, commonly known in more recent times by the trade names Dymondwood, Fibron, Pakkawood etc
Look at your axe handle under magnification at the edge, you will see the ply layers, about 25-27 per inch as I recall.
What looks like "wood grain" when viewing the handle from the side is really the effect of cutting thru the layers.
Think about what multi colored laminated rifle stocks look like, the effect is pronounced because of the colors whereas the axe handle layers are all the same color.

Yes the squared handled black micarta is 1972, the maroon is 1973 and the 3 line birch is 83. I have both of those in my collection, no box. nick, welcome. Did you get the sheath with the ax? This model is a great model to collect. DM

There was also the Brahma Compadre axe which was made exclusively for the BCCI in 2016.
According to the March 2017 BCCI newsletter under the special projects list there was 90 made.

I wish I had that axe.

Yes I have sheaths with twist closures for both of them. These are the only 2 I have seen local and have went so cheap I had to pick them up.

This is great you got the sheath with each ax. People at shows want those all the time. Some way theirs got lost. I doubt you can get a replacement from Buck. I purchased both mine at shows. Seems like I gave $75 for the birch handled model and $65 for the black micarta
model. Though it is called a campers ax, it is really something like a hunters ax for processing a deer. Still, a very interesting model from Buck. I'm glad you joined and showed us your models. DM
