I posted in this older 107 thread as well. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1416071-Buck-107

Not spamming, just curious as to what I may have found.

Short time back I bought set of Buck SCOUT knifes large and small. The smaller is obviously a 107, but the larger? It looks identical.

Sorry only one crappy pic, but both fit same flap BUCK brown sheath. The blades both have the early two line roll marks, using old English "Buck" and USA underneath no "dots".

My buddy ran across it and sent me a crappy cell pic. He knows I like Buck knives. Also knows the roll marks can determine age... Was enough as I bought it... ;)

The Blades appear not to have been resharpened or at very least where properly sharpened. They have been used, so not perfect. I know buck did a bunch of two knife sets but recent searches do not turn this up as a factory offering. Attractive micarda scales held with three larger silver pins and a steel hilt. The sheath is the mystery to me, he did not take pics before shipping out. Its a brass snap, which leads me to believe newer so maybe not even a buck set. But at cost I paid, I feel I am OK.

Anyone have any info on this possible TWO KNIFE SET? Was claimed to be a Older Large and Small Buck model 107.

Thanks guys!

Can't get in to details at the moment, but search for "Empress Trio".

This is a 3 knife kitchen set that is essentially the same as the Scout.

One can hear all kinds of things but no such 2 knife set ever existed. These 2 knifes you show are not 107's as the 107 came out in 1976 with a different stamp.
Your knifes are from the Empress Trio set, a 3 knife set which came out in 1972. It held a 4" paring, a 6" boning blade and a 9" breaking blade. The 9" blade makes a good carver too. They had the stamp like yours. They were held in a walnut display box for the kitchen. No sheath. The knives are often found broken up and sold separately. DM

Here is the complete set with the walnut display box. The one on the left is from 1973 with maroon micarta handles and the one on the right from 1972 (yours). DM

I should mention that later in the 70's Buck rounded the edges of the handles on this set. As you can see this on the left set. If your models have a square feeling handle, they are from 1972. DM

Thank you David!!

Yes, I have herd and seen these three knife sets. I was not aware that they where not 107 knives... Question; is this simply because the blade was not stamped as such? Because dimensions seem identical to a stamped M107. (Smaller sized knife.)

If I recall correctly, the small knife in the Empress set was so popular for outdoors use by hunters and, well, outdoorsmen, that Buck decided to offer it as a non-kitchen knife. They stamped a 107 on them, paired them with a leather sheath, and called them the "Scout." On later 107s, the bolster disappeared and the handles were switched to wood.

Something like that. Here is a 107, I purchased in 1976 when they first came out. It was the 1st offering Buck did with a drop in pouch style sheath. It came out with black micarta handles, block letter stamp and a 4" 440C blade. Pictured was an introductory edition. Seems like it lasted until 1990 and was dropped from Buck's lineup. You're welcome. DM

David, why did they stop making the 107? It was a very practical knife.

Yes, it's because they were not stamped 107's until 1976. The 2 knives are identical. DM

Thanks a bunch guys!! Last weekend I actually found the largest knife in this set!! I also found a wooden display box!!

I probably have paid more buying piece meal, but I'm happy as I dont buy to sell I buy cause I like them. I should have both in a few days and can assemble the trio of my own!!

Here is the 6" boning blade in the Empress set at work trimming a brisket. We cooked it for friends and family over the weekend. It did a good job. DM
