Hello all, i wonder how Buck feels when it comes to two of their most popular patterns being converted to automatic knives. Bob B

Bob,
I see several of our knives being converted into autos. The 110, 112, 500, 560 are what I see the most often. I can't really vouch for the quality of them although we do get some sent to us from time to time for warrantee work. My biggest beef is that sometimes the company that does the conversion fails to tell their customers that this voids the Buck warrantee. Once the knife is altered, the warrantee is void.
We get a few unhappy customers every year due to this but there is no way that we can do work on a knife that has been changed.
Thats my 2 cents.

Joe,Thanks for the info i myself own both a 110 and 112 auto conversions. I also have a 110 that my dad gave me in 1979.I have overheard dealers tell prospective buyers at gun shows that the conversions are covered under Buck,s warrenty. I know for a fact that this is not true. Bob B

I picked up a 110 conversion on Ebay for 160 dollars knowing Buck's warranty would most certainly be void, just wanted one. There seems to be no one making them consistently or consistently good.I was just thinking someone could set up a conversion shop and do well as they seem to be a sought after,of course laws being what they are and changing all the time who knows how long before the long arm of the law would shut them down. :)

I have seen both well made and not so well made autos. Actually a pretty cool idea and I think Cumberland Mountain was the first to do this.
Funny thing is, I have also seen, from China, a knife that is a counterfiet 110 auto. They have BUCK, U.S.A. etched on the blade and the Cumberland logo in the hollowgrind. Watch out for those.

I have seen single action and dual action Buck 110 autos, the single action were (I understand) converted by Paragon [now defunct]. The Paragons had a round button, I believe. There is a dual action with an oval button.

The dual action seems to be a very clever conversion, requiring only the removal of the rockerbar for the machine work to be performed. IMHO, the weak point of the conversion is the rockerbar pivot. The Buck solid steel pin is replaced with a barrel & screw. Unfortunately, this pivot takes the stress of the blade snapping open in shear...stress the OEM pivot was not intended to sustain...

...just my $.02... :)

I like them! :D
