Hello:

I just purchased a new-old-stock Buck 112 Ranger 2 dot that I plan to carry as part of my rotation of folders. I like the original sheath, but noticed that the inner part of the snap is already starting to leave an indentation on the wood scales with just a couple of uses. I also have a much newer Buck 110 custom with smooth Asian Water Buffalo scales. On the 110's sheath, I noticed that there is a little round piece of felt, perhaps glued, covering the inner part of the snap. I'm not sure how reliable it would be in long-term regular use though. Have any of you modified the older sheath to prevent the problem of nicking the scales? I've been looking at custom sheaths but I really want one with a cover that snaps over the knife. Even a non-snap tuck-in type would be okay. Does anyone know of a custom sheath that is lined to cover the inner snap, or of one that uses no snap? Many thanks.

Let us try asking in the land of all things, Buck.

Moving to the Buck Knives Forum.

My trick/remedy for this is "moleskin". It can be found in the foot care aisle at your favorite drug store. It's a fairly tough material with an adhesive backing. I use it on any of my knife or gun sheaths with snap or button issues.

The little round piece of felt work just find for me, on all
the rivets and snaps inside the sheath... I put them in
all my sheaths... You can buy them at any hardware
store or big box store...

:)

Glue a piece of thin leather on the inside over the snap. Larger the better.

When I was a kid in the early 70's I had a 112 and used a small band-aid over the button. Surprisingly it would stay stuck for a very long time before needing replacement. :)

That's ingenious! This has just taught me that one can miss the obvious when searching for a complicated solution to a simple problem.
