This is a dual thread / question. Double your pleasure (or consternation) :) o_O :)

OK here goes :

1. Carried in the back pocket (not belt pouch) how does the 110 (which I have) compare to the Case Back Pocket (which I don't have but am considering).

AND

2. Who Spydie drops their 110 ? I do.

I don't spydie drop my 110 because Im not all about speedy deployment and Because it doesn't feel safe to me.

And I know the case back pocket is slimmer and lighter than the 110 so I'm sure the case is better for this.
The buck 110 is a bit bulky and heavy for pocket carry, which is why it comes with a nice piece of leather to keep it in.
Now there are custom slimmed down aluminum frame Buck 110's, but I like the 110 as it is and would just get something else for pocket carry.

Totally agree.
I was just knocking around the house today with the 110 in my back pocket trying to see if I would like a Back Pocket.

Big knife / pocket carry . . .
ha, ha; The Chef said "I don't mind if you do dishes after I go to bed, in fact I know you aren't getting into trouble if you are washing dishes :)
but
what is with all the thump, thump, bang bang while you are washing dishes ? ? ?".
I said "I don't thump or bang, I try to be really quiet".
She just repeated her question "What is with all the thump, thump, bang bang while you are washing dishes ? ? ?".

I didn't tell her this but it must be either my Hold Out I or my Buck 110 or other knife like that in my front pocket bumping the cabinet door while I wash dishes.
Funny . . . I never notice.

That's funny. Kitchen cabinets are one thing, but that thump thump bang bang is not good on your car. She must have good ears.

Loose-in-pocket has always just been terribly awkward for me. Sheaths, clips, or small slipjoint in a watch pocket. Anything else is just madness.

Case's Back Pocket is significantly slimmer and lighter. The Buck 110's blade is a bit more robust, and the Buck's blade is overall a little longer, though the cutting edge length is just about identical. The Case is a little shorter closed. The Buck locks open, the Case does not, and has half-stops.

Comparison based on my 1979 Buck 110 and my 2012 Case Back Pocket Chestnut CV.

Buck made a slim version of there 110, 37 years ago. It was the 111 Classic w/ aluminum handles. It has a 440C blade. If you care to find that one on the Bay. Copper & Clad currently offers a aluminum frame as well. These would be fine for back pocket carry. DM

Yes I know what you mean. I finally, back in the day, even bought a belt pouch for my quite small Buck lock back; partly because it was getting scratched up though.

Probably the line for me, if walking around out and about, is any thing larger than a medium stockman.

Sounds like you won't be EDCing a Case Back Pocket any time soon.

Thanks that helps.

Do you pocket the Back Pocket much ? How is it ?

Is the handle nearly as wide at the rear as say a Sun Fish ? It looks pretty wide in the photos.

That sounds like what a guy wanted in another thread; I'll let him know.

I have only carried mine a few times, in my back pocket in a KSF pocket slip. I picked it up for a good price off the Exchange here back when I was into collecting, and it filled a niche at that time.

The width of the handle at the end is just a little narrower than the Buck 110, laying it directly on top of the Buck. Thickness-wise, it is almost exactly 1/2 as thick. Of course it weighs a lot less due to having just a single normal size bolster instead of those big chunks of brass on the Buck.

I carried that Buck 110 for years on my uniform belt during a previous career, but there's no way I'd want that brick loose in a pocket. It comes with a belt sheath for a reason.

If you want something approaching the heft of the Buck, get a Case Panama Trapper, which is the 2-blade version of the Back Pocket.

I used to love the Buck 110 back in the day but the thick, 7 1/2 oz. knives went by the wayside for me when lighter knives with much better steel came on the knife scene. I do like the Case backpocket knife and occasionally carry one - it rides really well in a hip or back pocket, and weighs less than half (3.6 oz.) the 110.

I have both the 110 and the BackPocket. If I'm going to pocket carry it would be the Backpocket. The main problem for me is I try to keep it upright against my wallet but it'll fall over and is a pain to grab, and a pain in the a$$ when I sit down. Knives that size need a sheath. I generally carry a traditional pocket knife in my front pocket.

Some people sew a pocket in their back pocket to keep the 110 upright. I have not tried this. As for the Case, I would go with the Tribal Lock because it locks and also it fits the back pocket well.
