Just got a new Buck 110 with ebony handles, my second 110. The first was 50 years ago, and it's been gone a long time. I really don't know what happened to it, but I probably traded or sold it. I figured it was about time for another. In the intervening years a lot of other knives have come and gone. But my new 110 is just like I remember the first one, and the quality is every bit as good. How many products can you say that about? It feels like coming home!

Welcome back!

I think the only noticable differances are the bolsters are a bit rounded on the edges these days, the blades are 420HC now, and a lot easier to sharpen than the 440C blades of old were/are.
I know my 20-teens 110's are a lot easier to sharpen than my circa 1972 110 is.

Welcome back to Buck and the Buck Knife sub-forum. I bought the first Buck 110 that I saw with the re-introduced ebony handles last winter. I have to agree; the fit, finish, and overall quality is A+ level and a wonderful knife - especially for the money (probably the best knife bargain on the market). OH

Now that I think back, that's probably why I let the first one go. I found it very difficult to sharpen. In spite of that, it was still a classic knife design.

Sharpening those old knives was/is a labor of love. I still have my 78 •110• and have acquired a few older ones that i put a sharper edge on but just not willing to remove too much metal as they are collectors not users now.

One thing I've learned about the old 440c blades that are much thicker than new offerings is to put a convex edge on them, this makes all the difference in the world how these old 440 c blades take a edge.

I’m not that good/technical i just run them lightly on a coarse, med and fine stone. When it shaves i’m done. I got a strop from Mak just in time to put it on the moving van and plan on learning how to use it soon.

The new Ebony scaled 110s are truly well made, solid & beautiful. Well worth the money. I am in an equatorial climate with extreme humidity, and the ebony has held up wonderfully, no swelling at all.

Congrats
I bought my dad an ebony 110 earlier this year for Father's day.
It was his first since he reported to fort Bliss TX at the young age of 20 back in '78.
He had a similar feeling as you, been so long without one but it was just as he remembered.
He's been carrying it on his belt at work all year, but I did get him a 110LT a few months back and he's been switching back and forth.
