Hello all,

I just "re-discovered" my buck knife collection, and was wondering what the blade material is on my 110.. I bought it around 1973/74, and it has the 2 pins holding the scales, is stamped BUCK, 110, USA and has the ground nail nick..

I also found my:

Model 315 Yachtsman, early 80's era,(silver bolsters)
Model 311 pocket knife (80's era)
model 124 Frontiersman (80's era)

I was caught up in the "custom" knife craze for many years and kind of forgot about the Buck knives, but have a new appreciation for my old knives.:D

My 110 from that era is 440C, but you'll get it from the horse's mouth diretly.

As far as I know, the general use steel by Buck would be:

Before 1981.- 440C

1981 to 1994.- 425M

After 1994.- 420HC

There may be exceptions, such as some knives made by contract from others (like their stockmans at some time), special editions, and others made standard with special steels, such as ATS34.
