I've just acquired Buck 110 FG of recent production (Dec. 2013) to replace my beat-up Buck 110 from late ‘70s.
I’ve noted that the blade has some up/down play but no side play at all.
Is this considered as normal?
Anyone has an experience with Buck 110 of recent production?

Thanks in advance,

Normal? I'd say no it's not. I've got a couple, nothing current that have a little side to side play but nothing up and down. Can you return it to the place of purchase and check the replacement before leaving the store? If not I'd just use it and later on send it to Buck for a spa treatment. If it's something you can't live with you and or you can't return it contact the Buck warranty department.

Sounds like the blade lock isn't seating correctly. See if there is some stuff in the groove in the blade that the lock goes in to. Could be a good cleaning if the knife would be my first try. In the sink with dish washing liquid and an old toothbrush. After dry well with compressed air and oil.

I just got one of the 50 year 110s and there is no play unless trying to force the blade downward against the lock and even this is negligible. If the knife is used normally no blade play can be felt.

Cleaning with dish washing detergent and toothbrush seemed to took care of the up/down blade play.
Now its only the slightest minute downward movement only when a great downward force is applied at the blade tip which I can live with.

That's good to know. Thanks for the update.
