My 110 has horizontal and vertical bladeplay. Anyway i can fix this at home? It's a few years old but it's been sitting in the box unused. Finally decided to use it and i realized it's wobbly.

I'd take it all apart, clean it, lube it, reassemble (make sure it's reassembled correctly, I'm sure there's guides all over on how to take apart a 110). there could be a lot of crap on the locking interface that would cause vertical play. the pivot screw could be loose and cause side to side play.

Theres no pivot on the blade, it's pinned together. And as for it being dirty, theres nothing in there it's a brand new, never been used knife.

Well the vertical i'm not so hopeful for, It's a lockback and sometimes thats part of the fallback. It's clean, the parts just aren't in tight enough tolerance. As for the horizontal, i'm hoping theres a fix for that. I can live with vertical, not horizontal.

Yep. Just put it in a vice and give it a little squeeze. :D Seriously. At least that's what I do.

Yeah. That. Ever seen a Buck 110 from up close?

Kind regards,

Jos

...yeah, real easy to take apart a buck 110...just replace your torx driver with a power drill...gets worse after that...

The one I had became loose in all directions, very fast. From snap cutting greenbriars and small limbs off my hiking trails. It still worked but it had the wobble up down and back and forth. Granted it was a 27 dollar Walmart special, but I've had others as cheap fare better doing the same duty.

You look hard enough there is a thread around here, talking about how great the Buck 110 is :D

sorry, I didn't realize it's held together with rivets. i never really had much interest in the buck 110, so i never payed much attention to it.

Fixing the side to side play is REALLY EASY. You are going to have to live with the vertical bladeplay -unless you send it in to Buck. If it really is a new knife they will fix it for free. If it is old and shows signs of normal wear and tear, you may have to pay a small repair fee.

I recently fixed mine.

Here is what you do:

Grab a phone book, or a thick magazine. Grab a hammer. Place the 110 in the middle of the pages of the book so that the bottom of the knife comes out -you only want the upper pivot in the book (use the Brass guard thing as your point of reference -it should be inside the book). Place it on a hard surface. If you have a stable table, use the end of that. Hammer the book right over where the pivot is. Do it once and check your knife for bladeplay. Keep doing this "guess and check" style until you have removed the blade play.

You dont want to do it too hard, or you will not be able to open the knife and there is no going back. I would say you should use a good solid hammer whack, but we all have different definitions for ambiguous terms -just guess and check and work your way up in power.

This method worked for me in about 2 minutes. A Buck representative even said it was a good method -keep in mind my knife was old and very used so the warrantee would have been kind of mean to take advantage of on my part. If you have an unused knife they will be happy to fix it.

All better. Thanks The Government. Worked like a charm. Grabbed the Christmas Master catalog 2009 from cabelas and gave one solid work and it's perfect! Up and down play doesn't bother me any, it's a lockback i understand that.

Glad I could pass it foreword! A guy in the buck forum told me that trick:thumbup:

Yupp. the pin sticks out like 2 pages thick. I think they cut the pin too long or something. It's smooth until it almost opens, then it feels like its rubbing a bit, i'm sure itll smooth out. it's a 40$ knife, i just wanted the bladeplay gone. Worked like a charm though :-).

You got me on that one. I just lube the pivot and let the brass tarnish. I remember when I first got it -it was as reflective as a house mirror.

I am sure someone will have info on keeping the brass nice -they make polishes for it.
